Spark Plug-Throw or Clean

Been Around the Block
So after going through a dozen plugs while tuning the KZ400, when or when shouldn't you bother cleaning the soot off of them. If after one hard sooting are they garbage? I read you can soak them in toilet bowl cleaner...I've just been spraying them with wd40, good hard scrubbing with a wire brush, and spray them with WD again. Effective, I don't have a clue?

What I Was Thinking But $3.50 A Pop Up North Here, Limited Budget, And A Half Dozen ASession, F N A!

A plug with carbon on it will clean itself in service once an engine is jetted properly. If they foul to the extent that they will no longer fire, I throw them out. I've never been able to get a foul-shorted plug to fire again.

Willing to bet oven cleaner would get the carbon build up off em, enough to run til you get it dialed in.

Or you can buy a spark plug cleaner hahah

I just get new ones, cost of tuning.

I buy plugs but the box's But I have a Repair shop and go threw allot of them. If your plugs are sooted up change them out and get it tune in.

I keep them around, I have several engines that use the same size and type, one is a generator that kills them once in a while, usually when you need the MFer to run.

I take a propane torch to them heat till they smoke and then brush clean, basically what an in tune engine does.

I heard an interesting spark plug cleaning tip on another forum today. Throw them in a container of bleach for 12=24 hours. Cleans them right up.

Be an idea, bleach is a corrosive agent though wouldn't leave them long, just like carbs in lemon juice/simple green.

Bleach is an oxidizer, so it would eat the carbon. Won't affect the porcelain or wear the electrodes like blasting will.

I'm not sure bleach would take care of the carbon deposits.
Anyone know the chemical composition of the burned on shit on plugs and pistons etc?

Sea foam seems to work on carbon deposits on cylinder head so should work on plugs too.

I have been burning and brushing the plugs and re-using at least once.

It's a witch's brew of organic molecules and carbon, all of which would be oxidized and dissolved by bleach.
