SR500 Stator

SONICJK

Reminds me of...me No, I'm sure of it. I hate him
Here we go again!
years later I still need a stator for my 78 SR500.
I just cant bring myself to pay 700 bucks for a new one.
Anyone have one?

Everyone I ask about rewinds doesn't want to do it because of the special 78 CDI coils or some shit.

When you say $700 for a new one, do you mean an OEM replacement or a complete replacement charging/ignition system?

Understand $50 is better than $350 but...

Thanks Tim,
I've got a rexe's CDI already but trying to finds an option that doesn't require me to send the one I have to the UK the pay to ship the rewind back to me!

I found that Rick's Motorsport Electrics will do it for $275
so far that's the best option I think.

I'll try custom rewind as well, i've tried before with no luck.

I may be wrong, but it seems like Matt has started to do this with some of the Honda Twins. Maybe it's something he can do for you.

I'm sure he'll chime in but I remember from when we designed those that there is a machine that winds them.

That's something I usually outsource.

I know how to do it, but I've never done one. Since it's already broken, I'd be willing to give it a shot.

When I did the FA50, I just bought some 34 AWG wire on ebay for like $8. I'm sure yours has heavier wire.

Basically I just over wound it until the resistance was higher than what I needed, and then slowly unwound the extra and kept checking the resistance until it was within spec.

Over wound.

In spec.

I think the only reason it failed was because I used some cheap crappy epoxy I had lying around, that probably didn't stand up to the heat. All said and done I probably had 3-4 hours into it but most of that was removing the old wire.
