Starter issue

Scratcher09

Been Around the Block
Just bought this '74 cb350 with 5K miles. Seems to be in good shape. When I hit the starter button, it usually just spins without engaging. Once in a blue moon it will engage. Is it safe to say I need to rebuild or replace the starter? Or is there anything else that it could be? Just looking for advise before I order a starter rebuild kit.

I'm not 100% sure on the 350-4. But the starter motor has teeth on it that mesh with another gear, which in turn meshes with the flywheel. Take the starter out, shouldn't take but a few minutes, and take a look at the starter, and the gear set. If the starter spins, the problem should stick out like a sore thumb.
