Starter will not work.....

AzHonda

Coast to Coast
So I have been breaking down the engine to have some pieces powder coated. Ever since I bought this bike (CB360T) about a month ago, the starter would not work. I think it is the solinoid. BUT.........even if I would have gotton power to the starter, here is the other issue I would have run into. What's wrong with this picture? All I have done is take the cover off and this is what I found.

Wonder why the previous owner did this?

Are you talking about the electric start on the handlebars? If that is the case there is no starter motor. The hole in the top left of the case is where the starter motor goes. It is chain driven, and there is a small gear it connects to.

The starter motor is removed for multiple reasons. Its heavy, you can use a much smaller battery, etc etc

Yes, I am talking about the electric start on the handlebars. The bike has a stock battery (brand new) and I already took the starter off before taking the cover off. I just wonder why they removed the gear ring and chain.

Oh, so the starter motor was on the bike, but the gear and chain was removed? Interesting. Yeah, I am not sure why they would do that.

Yeah, kinda wierd. Must have broke and they didn't want to replace it.

There are two reasons chain and sprocket were not there
1. forgot to re-fit it
2. deliberately removed because starter clutch is faulty (the inner ramp section can crack, rollers get flats, holding bolts are loose, etc)

I will have to look in my book and see exactly what part you are talking about but that is interesting.
