Suggestions for scavernger hunt rules.

This is a revised version of the Scavenger Hunt. Rules will be revised by participants and the game won't start until a majority are satisfied with the rules.

Rules are simple, Rules are Law and will not be changed:

1. All pictures MUST include your bike with the "mark". If your bike isn't in the picture it does NOT count.

2. All marks must be clearly visible in picture.

3. Once a mark has been called it cannot be changed for 5 days.

4. Once a mark has been achieved it cannot be called again for 2 months.

5. No illegal, immoral or offensive marks. It has to be accessible to anyone.

6. No pictures, paintings or other facsimiles of the mark in the photo. It has to be the real thing, NO Photoshop type stuff.

7. Once you get a mark and call the next one, you can't achieve another mark until two have passed.

8. The picture of the mark must be a new picture, one taken just for the Hunt, after the mark is called.

9. The picture cannot be taken in your garage or shed.

10. The picture will be approved by the caller and two others within 24 hours before the next mark can be called. After the 24 hours as long as 3 players agree the mark can be called.

Try and keep the Mark accessible on a global scale.

This is for fun and enjoyment only. It's all about getting out and riding!!

MODS, Feel free to delete this thread if you think the original can be saved.

Lets see if this will keep going without having 1-2 marks a page.
Please chime in with any rules that you think should be added or modified.
I will add marks when they have been called and I will not update the rules once the game has started.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

Who calls the new Mark after a period of 5 days should the origional not be obtainable? Only the person who had called the unobtainable mark?

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

The original mark caller will call the next mark if the current is not achieved in 5 days.

Unless someone has a better idea.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

As do I mate. But this is here as a fall back.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

My biggest beef with the other is the constant changing of marks. I've actually gone out, gotten a mark and then returned only to discover the mark had been changed because someone decided it would be too hard. They didn't even give it nearly the set time. This happened to me twice. At least the first time I discovered the change before I made the effort of posting pics and stuff........saved myself a little embarrassment.

The other is the "compromise". Example (and this was the first thing to disappoint me about the first thread) a call was made for "an abandoned vehicle ie. car, truck etc." and a compromise was made by excepting a none abandoned rail car just to keep things rolling. Not knocking anyone just saying. Again, nowhere NEAR the allotted time had passed. Most of us work and actually would enjoy taking part but can't get out right away.

This brings me to another possible rule change. Perhaps the person who "captured" the previous mark has to let a second mark pass before claiming another so that it doesn't become a 2 person event as we saw for a time there. It would then allow some of the other folks to get out and get some marks. It was moving fast which was great but wow! I couldn't keep up and I was just reading HAHAHA

Anyway. I've always like the idea of the scavenger hunt and have taken part by claiming a few marks myself (here and on another forum) it's just unfortunate that some feel the need to moderate and change stuff around constantly.

As it is, I've wasted far too much effort even typing this little post. It's just a "game" meant to get us out. I wouldn't even care if it disappeared but I'm kind of addicted to it now HAHA. It's interesting to see what comes up next. Would love to see it stay without all the bullshit.

Cheers.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

I would like to see it stay and waited a week until I posted this. I like that idea and nearly added that. I will change it tomorrow when I am home. Out now and on the phone. Also if this kicks off I will not change the rules or moderate.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

Guys, if you're doing this because of the bickering in the other thread, I tell you with complete certainty that I'm done with it. I've said my peace (ad nausium :p) and won't offer unsolicited opinions there anymore.
Now it's no secret that I have/had a problem with the current "Rule", but not so much with the "Ruler". Having said that, I think you should try bringing your concerns to Glenn and see if he's open to the ideas. Of course that's just my opinion, take it for whatever you think it's worth ;)

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

I tend to like your opinions Redbired, but I feel that the current thread has been degraded a little because of what has happened. I was silently hopeing that you would find this thread. Anything you want to revise on the rules?

Even if this thread becomes an advice thread for the current one at least it would be handy for the people of DTT to have their say.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

Let's try to sort things out in the existing thread. This is going to get confusing for people.

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

As I said feel free to delete this thread Tim. If the other one comes good I will change the name so it is harder to find.

+1.. I went back through the scavenger hunt thread.

When you look at how the snippiness spiraled out of control and prompted " I'm outta here" comments: it was mostly due to Miss Redbird's pissyness.... I'm sure she is a nice lady and all and the forum members do make comments regarding this, however the pissyness was relentless.

Not that my opinion matters on all this, but I think several people/factors contributed to the drama. I don't think Chris (Redbird) was being malicious, I think he was being sarcastic, as he is known to do. Nor do I think anyone else was being malicious. Things snowballed. That's all.

That said... can you guys all just put on your big girl panties and lighten up a little? Its just a game.
I may not have a bike on the road yet, but I do enjoy following the scavenger hunt thread and look forward to participating when I get my first bike going. :)

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

Me? Sarcastic?! Naaaahhhhh... ;D
And Deanna, I'm married, so that'd be Mrs Redbird ;)

I said earlier, and just want to reiterate it, I believe this should be brought to Glenn to address with the "old" game. Should that not work out, then go from there.
It's doubtful I'll play much, if at all, in the old thread any more because I feel that anything I post will be seen as antagonistic. And yes... that was largely my own doing.
But to answer you bvander, my take on the "new rules" is this...
#3. I think some sort of clause should be added in it (or at the end) about "nothing Illegal, Immoral, or Offensive please". You wouldn't want someone to call 'your bike and a swastika tattood gay baby seal with his head bashed in', and then you're stuck with it for 5 days :p
#4. I think maybe a time limit between calling a duplicate mark would be better than no repeats at all. As with the other thread, with over 100 marks it gets harder and harder to be original, and people don't have the same imagination levels. And some marks are just cool! Like the bike in motion pic, or (for me) historical stuff, and could/should be repeated occasionally to see what new pops up.
I like New2meCB's idea of the mark caller sitting out for two turns instead of one, to give more players a chance at it.
And I thought I saw somewhere a suggestion of a majority approval system for mark verification. I think the mark caller should "ok" the submission first, and then maybe have others "second" it or even "third" it. That way the mark caller (who's the one that knows what they wanted to see) has input, but others have the opportunity to call "bs" if it ain't up to scrutiny. Also, maybe a time limit for approvals as well. Perhaps 24, 36, or 48 hours. That way if the mark caller is unavailable (at work, on vacation, in jail, etc.) when the mark is captured, a specified number of players (3, 5, etc.) can chime in for approval or disapproval to keep the game from halting for a week or possibly 15-20 years with good behavior.

As always... that's just my opinion, take it for whatever you think it's worth ;)

Re: Do the Ton Mark Hunt.

Alright well the old thread seems to be going alright again.

Tim or Go Mama if you want to delete this thread feel free. I will change the name after this post to stop confusion.

I also modified the rules with suggestion that people have made. If anyone has any more I will try to keep them up to date (if the thread stays).

I think the modified rules should be brought to the old threaf and disscussed and check voted on over there.

Yeah I was thinking of the best way to do that. I don't want to dump them in the middle of the thread. I was thinking of PMing Glen but I was hopeing he would see this thread and comment with any ideas.
