Suzuki GN400 Lighting Issue

Hey guys, I’m trying to fix a no lights issue while repairing some old mouse-chewed wiring. My wiring diagram shows a white/blue, pink, and green/white going from the magneto to the light switch.

At the magneto, the green/white is supposed to run through a resistor and tie into white/blue. The green/white is disconnected and I don’t see a resistor. Does anyone have any idea what size resistor is supposed to go there?

Would you be able to post a picture of the wiring diagram. That and the year of your bike would be a great help.

It is a 1980 model.

Here’s a clue I found online. I don’t see anything mounted to my frame like is described here.

By looking at the wiring diagram it would appear that the resistor is there so the battery is not overloaded when the headlight is off.

If you wanted to update your wiring some you should be able to purchase a new 6v Reg/rec and wire it up.

Otherwise you will need to replace the resistor.
I can't find any mention of size other than what you have posted.

Sonreir is our local guru and will have more of an idea of what you need than I do.

Thanks. We’ll see if he sees this thread. I’d like to avoid modifying anything for now. At least until I can determine the cause of my problem.

Matt gave me some good info that the missing resistor is not my main problem. I discovered today that my light switch needs some cleaning - it only works about half the time. The only lights that work are front turn signals, and they don’t light up until about 3,000 rpm. There’s no battery in the bike now, but I’m not sure that’s part of the issue?

Battery missing would be part of it, you need either a battery or a capacitor to keep the 12V flowing to the lights steady at lower RPM's

I am in the process of bringing a GN400 back to life. It looks like only the 1980 had the resistor. One end is broken off mine. It looks like it says 10 Ohm on it. I plan to replace mine.
