Might as well add another picture.

Now that my daughters wedding and the holidays have just passed I will start building a set of chambers for the Titan. If I drag raced 1/8 mile instead of 1/4 I would just leave the single pipe on, but I don't, so it's time to get some trap speed.

Come on Jim :) My son got married last year, puts a big dent in the wallet for sure ;D

Seems the general consensus about merged chambers is that they run great in the lower and middle rpm range, but fall flat on top.
Had a Strader pipe on my GT380, and that's exactly what happened there, too. I don't know how the sleds run, though. Maybe they have a different way to tune. Maybe they're all low-end. Hope you figure it out.

In my experience, sleds with merged pipes generally are just like you said, fairly docile and tuned for lower/ mid range for tail riding. Sleds made to scream on the top end tend to have separate cans stuffed under the hood. Dad's old xcr 800 (which made 170+ horse at the crank, and consequently sucked high test gas like it was going out of style lol)

Either way, jimmers titan is awesome, and it's rad that he ran that pipe imho

Thank you Gents. Everyone that builds pipes either uses the stock straight headpipes or makes tapered headpipes from a gazillion cones. I think my idea will work and be much less tedious to fabricate. I HOPE! So I have just begun building my twin pipes with tapered headpipes. Very important for max power.

More details Jim, I can't tell exactly what you plan to do? Are you going to close up the gap then weld it up? Looks like you cut too much out to do that. I'm very interested in what you are planing :)

One hell of a taper you got going on there, what angle are you going with for that section?

Looks like some good thinking.

There are probably more pipe specs on the internet and in books for this engine than any other one out there. I went with a very average/typical taper for the T500.I am starting with a 2 1/2" od tube and will taper down to 1 7/8" over about 17 1/2" length.Bend radius is 6" btw.

My cobbled pipes.

I have a feeling you can feel that thing pounding your chest Lol nice man

As someone that has built an entirely sheet metal rolled and sectioned out exhaust...I LOVE your method of splitting the pipe and then tapering it back down, that was a really smart and brilliant way of saving yourself a lot of time energy and work from the usual method.

Jimmer,
Great method to get a tapered headpipe with minimal welding. The only other set of chambers I've seen with the headpipes fabricated the same way are hanging in my store room - they were built almost 35 years ago(!) for my TZ250 / RD400 hybrid.
Can't understand why more headpipes aren't built the same way - you've given a lot of guys something to think about for their next pipe fabrication project.
Looks like you've had a lot of fun with your 500 twin - keep up the good work!
Pat
