I was given a proper port map for the Montadero and Bandido. They said it was the same part number for Model 18, 51, 61, 70 however I have a port map from a NOS 18 cylinder that has a higher duration

This is way harder than I thought! How in the heck you cannot do this accurately with a port map. I can see why Plato and Aristotle were at odds with each other.

In over my head. Really looking forward to seeing a video of it on the strip!

“This software is not for beginners.” Tell me about it! I don’t see how you you can manually measure port angles with wire or solder and for it to be accurate.

Removed the studs and put them on the wire wheel

Heated the cases on the grill to 300 degrees had the bearings in the freeze and they dropped in no problem and both cases. Grilled tacos. Painted the cylinder.

put the crank in the freezer also and it dropped in. Transmission was very simple gasket thickness was critical so we had the correct gasket from Hughes Bultaco. Kick starter had a witness mark that needed to be lined up for the Bultaco montadero.

only hiccup were the spacers needed to be turned down for the new 86mm forged piston we kept the same clearance as the original pistons at .030”

Don’t know if this was the correct way.

Had to remove .020” off each spacer for it to fit in the new Wiseco Piston. The machinist equivalent of free climbing El Capitan.

First time 1.47 seconds. So two stroke rings are a different story than 4 stroke rings. After about doing it 12 times I got the hang of it.

Shot it across the shop once. Lost it in the case twice and dropped it numerous times. Why isn’t there a tool for this?

You have been busy.

In answer to a question you asked earlier: The more accurate the measurement, the more accurate will be the output. That said, remember that once you establish the baseline, what really matters is the variables that you change and the effect on the shape of the power curve. It's a development tool, not a fortune teller with crystal balls to see exactly where you will end up, but the more accurate you are, the clearer the crystal will be and the clearer the vision of your future.

And keep in mind that we aren't expected to know everything about how a two stroke works. We don't have the words or understanding to do that. But as we take these steps, we discover more and learn and from that comes wisdom and occasionally power to the rear wheel.

And with those wire circlips, curve them in gently and they will pop into place.

If I remember correctly back to a different build wasn’t it you that suggested to make a mold of the ports? Will try the other method next time. BB made this technique look easy.

Thank you for the words of encouragement.

Learned a neat trick from BB. It looked like the circlip was seated to me. However he took out a pic with a hook on it and with just light pressure the clip went flying. The wrist pin was too long and didn’t allow the pin to seat correctly. So we turned the pin down in the lathe .040” on both sides and the circlip seated correctly. I would have never thought that this would be a problem. Bill said if you have lost it in an engine you would check for it.

Nice save Bill. that could have been a disaster

Yes! We took off .040” from each side and i found a new circlip tool! It is important to never trust any click especially political ones
