So how much clearance does a chain guard need? I am assuming all the chain slap is on the bottom side when the tire is loaded.

I wouldn't bet on that. Also, when you back off it is loaded the other way.

Drag racers never back off.....;):rolleyes::)

In some cases that is an absolute because of the way that engagement dogs are cut for faster shifts. If those guys ever back off the transmissions basically becomes a Claymore mine.

Give it enough clearance to allow it to move and whip. Use BB's bike as an example.

I was wrong the front 21” was 24 lbs and now we are 16 lbs.

Even pulling the clutch is going to put reverse power to the chain. The rear wheel will be powering instead of being powered when it is coasting down. Unless you want to eat a chain guard at the end of each run, this must be accounted for. Watch the coast-down on his video. About 1" +/- movement.

Going to use the biggest sprockets 15/45 to build the chain guard with 1” clearance on top. I have an idea we will be going down to 13-15/35 when this is all said and done. BTW the cb175 and hub weighs exactly the same as the Xr650l rim and hub at 13 lbs so we are staying with the cb175 for the rear. Now we can finish the rear brake.

So the lightest front drag tire that I could find is a Hoosier at 4 lbs....I really wanted to use these so I could put “Daddy” on the side but in the end went for the MC11’s because I am cheap, I mean frugal. https://www.jegs.com/i/Hoosier/522/18108/10002/-1

That one fits a 2.5 x 17 rim. That's pretty fat. The 17" isn't an issue if you can find a suitable rim.

Finally have decided on
IMG_7994.jpg

bar position that will give me the control position I want. So now I am obsessing over which throttle will give me the perfect hand position at red line because that is where will will stay. BB’s Magura I am using is about 100-110 degrees for WOT but we need to see where redline is. This bar position is almost identical to the factor Suzuki GSX position.

Looking good Tex. Just out of idle curiosity, how are the upside down bars more comfortable? I tired several different bars on the Phat Trakka to try to get comfortable and it's all in the wrist angle and bar height. For my shoulders drag bars were the most uncomfortable. Most comfortable were high bars but they were not so good for drag.

I will let you know. Zeke thought I was crazy when he saw the picture because it looked like the bars were tilted up but then when he sat on it he saw the bars are sitting level. Very close to our sport bikes but dropped down to reduce drag and get under the fairing...

Should of listened to John before buying a throttle. Now we know the real reason why we stuck the other piston. The second mark is 8k on the rev limiter.
