The Amalgam: honda past meets present, take 2! or 3?

There's a copper penny powder coat available from several sources. Machining copper sucks and the coolant has to be water soluble. Some use milk, oddly enough.

Been a while but back at it. 3d printed side covers for test fit just came in, stay tuned!

Nothing fun to update, but I have not having more to post. The final side cover version have been ordered, won't ship til Nov 10th. I also got some more body work done on the tank, and I threw a guide coat on it since I was going blind. It is much closer that I thought it was, just one more coat of bondo, then I'll glaze it. That combined with some high build primer and I will be golden. Looks like I am going to miss my Dec 12th deadline, mostly since I have zero time to work on it at the moment. I'm going to shoot to have in finished by Feb 1st, which should be doable as my schedule will open up a little soon. I figure I need 100 to 150 hours to be completely done.

I'd the mean time I have the wonderful task of convincing my wife this bike will be on display in the living room once done ;D. The room is 37x17, I only need 14sqft!

Progress finally

It's been a while, but the weather gave me the bug to finish this, I'd rather not be riding something I didn't build this year, and being this project is so close to completion, I'm looking to to bring it over the finish line. That being said, the skateboard wheel fix for the chain hasn't been sitting well with me, so I cut out part of the rear of the frame where it was hitting, and will modify it properly to clear the chain. I also have to brace the front downtubes, then bodywork and paint it. I figure 100 hours finishes it, pics to follow.

Is there a lot of tension on the chain where it goes over the swing arm? Is it possible to use a black nylon/teflon strip like a lot of other bikes do where the chain transitions over the swing arm instead of cutting material out?

Frame is already cut, i dont think i was clear. It doesnt hit the swingarm, it hit on the lower part of the chain. Easy fix really. And the chain isnt inder tension in that photo.

While you are cutting, is it time to raise the motor and swingarm pivot :) I know I said that before - just yanking your chain a little.

Lol. But i can service the motor in frame this way! I may tweak it a little, on the fence. To be honest im on the fence about just building a whole new one now that i have a jig.

I hear you. I modified an RD350 frame last year to go drag racing and now it's almost finished I'm thinking about cutting most of the frame out and starting again on the jig and that way I can make some more significant changes. In theory, we have to keep the "engine cradle" but I suspect that if it's a close enough copy with stock engine mounts, no one will notice.

That's the issue with a couple of my stalled builds. They start simple and then get more involved and then I reach a point where I need to throw a bunch of metal out and start again with a cleaner design.

Yep! The problem is its taken too long. At this point with my lathe and frame jig its probably faster to start fresh. I can do a wick frame design im itching to try, and i have a different set of wheels i even want to use.

Perimeter, backbone or cradle frame?

Trellis frame, carbon fiber or aluminum fuel tank, super light aluminum subframe, modern wheels and forks? That's where I should have started with a couple of my projects. I got as far as modern suspension and wheels - well they were modern when I started. LOL.

You have just given me an idea. Thanks for that.

Still a backbone, but reall cool design. I decided i am going to chop this frame up and start there. 3 reasons.

1. I was to use original gears lined up perfectly.

2. I want to fab a more aesthetically pleasing design.

3. I wanna put hard miles on this, so i want it overbuilt.
