Bought myself a Christmas present
I was faced with taking my engine apart, to fix the leaky tappet covers (stripped studs - irreparable). It's the same problem that lead me to build the 750cc rephased ported head monster engine I have in my café.
So, still facing that problem, I stumbled across a couple eBay auctions
Bought an XS1 cam with the later model 36 tooth sprocket pressed on. The XS1 cam is a lumpier higher performance cam and with the proper sprocket on it is now compatible with the later model engines.
The same seller had a ported head
All prepped, ground and polished tappets, valve tips etc. 3 angle valve grind, polished/ported, etc. etc. And the camshaft comes with a copper gasket which is cool and fresh roller bearings in the ends for the advance mechanism.
Made a deal on both. Saves me from taking my spare head to the machine shop for a standard valve job and cleanup. Probably cost $250 more than that would have cost but I'm getting a ported head, good anti friction coatings and the lumpy XS1 camshaft for that extra money.
Not as nutty as my 750cc engine but nice moderate performance upgrades which is perfect for this bar hopper.
Pics to follow. Merry Christmas!
