Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Ride, Tweak, Rinse, Repeat.
Yesterday I addressed a small oil leak that was coming from the breather cover. I took the top head off, cleaned the surface and put everything back on. Turned it on, rev'd it up some and it looked like the problem was solved. Perfect! Just in time for mother's day dinner. Today, I'm riding back home for lunch and when I pulled in the garage, I'm PISSING oil out of the left side. Head scratcher... ??? ??? ???
Turns out I tore the cylinder head oil seal for one of the studs and the oil pooled up inside that little chamber. Explains why it looked like it was coming from the head gasket even though it was a new head gasket. I thought I might have one from another head I had in the garage but turns out I had to order one from Bike Bandit. Cant ride for the rest of the week. Bummer because I was just thinking this morning how well the bike was running. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
Re: The Poor Boy - A Tale Of A CB550- Ride, Tweak, Rinse, Repeat.
It's been a while and the riding hasn't been too consistent. I was having charging issues. I think the Reg/Rec unit is busted. I also took the opportunity redo the wire harness.
Here is the before everything was connected with bullets and was exposed and an ugly rats nest in front of the tank:
After, I redid the connections and removed some of the useless connections. Replaced with a single, 15a inline fuse, per Matt's suggestion, and tried to get everything to fit.
All the connections seem solid. Hopefully, the charging issue was with connections, not a busted Reg/Rec unit.
I also got sick of oil weeping from the head over cylinder #4. I put some gasket sealer around the edge. and redid the timing.
The R/R is for 550/750?
They use EMS system
White wire connects to field coil?
When you turn on ignition it creates an electromagnet, you can test by holding a feeler gauge blade close to generator cover, it should get attracted (obviously have to use steel feeler blade)
So I got new rubber finally (Shinto) and these dweebs at Cycle Gear mount then for me... This is what I find when I go to pick them up:
Are you serious?! They said they were out of spoke weights, which are bad enough, but how do they even HAVE these to put on bike wheels. And why not call before putting such an atrocious addition on. They said they would re-balance when they got more spoke weights. Fucking annoying.
