The Volkswagen Thread

My first car was a 71' Super Beetle. Later on up in Alaska, I drove a 67' bus. Wish I still had that bus.

Does it run and drive?

If so.....9 bills is good.

Turned out, I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground about the beetle I bought, IT IS a 1965 beetle, 68 pan, but the front suspension was cut off the 68 pan, and the 65 link pin suspension was welded on... crooked... so it is a butchered little beetle. beneath the surface of 1/4-1/2 inch thick bondo its rough. it was hit hard in the right front at sometime.(we will call it a $900 lesson in the history of vw learned the hard way) Lots of rust too, but running 1300 and rebuilt trans, good interior and lots of parts. It has since become a donor car for a 66 beetle texas car no rust, sunroof, clean title new pans, and fresh suspension. I picked it up for $500 can't wait to tear into it this weekend. I'll share pics as soon as I have some. Setting a 6 week deadline to get it on the road for local show.

Cool.....anxiously waiting..!!!!

Split the body and pan on my '74 over the weekend and started to tear into the engine a bit too. Good compression so the heads aren't coming off. I'm just degreasing it, sandblasting/coating the tins, and cleaning everything up.

Just a couple of small holes to weld up in the pan, a bit of rot at the back corners of the heater channels on the body and a few small repairs where the running boards mount. Should be fairly straightforward.

Hey guys, just joined and I don't have a bike yet, but I can participate in this thread at least!

Earlier this year I picked up a new daily, A Jetta TDI Cup Edition, 1 of 314 made in candy white with the DSG, only 1500 total produced. Of course there are two other white ones with the thunderbunny kit in town. ::)

Pretty sad as I loved this car and it was in awesome shape.

So I bought this:

Great little car. Not as good on fuel as the civic and has had a few minor things happen, but overall happy with it.

mine is sitting in the driveway with what I think is another blown head gasket...Might be better off to do a swap and call it done...I hate to get rid of it. Its been the best car and most fun handling car I have ever owned

The engine has always sucked as far as power...I spent the money on suspension..H&R race springs front and rear, Bilsteins, Neuspeed upper and lower braces up front..just wish I had got an upgraded rear sway bar

Should have just went with a vr swap haha.

The VR is about 120lbs heavier and most of that is forward of the front wheels... and the oil pan is about 3 inches lower than the 2.0 16v.... and 150 + whp is pretty damned good

Scirocco bottom end I assume? I'm just not a CIS fan. Not as fun to tune. Even though it's pretty close to a megasquirt system. I enjoy the ease of modern technology and adjustments. I've sectioned out oil pans btw. There are shallower options that fit. Match that with an engine lift and the vr fits in great. In all honesty of I were to swap again I'd do an ABA and boost it. Great gains can be had from that little 8v beast.

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to work on either of my motorcycles lately but I have made some pretty nice progress on my '74 bug.

Body rust repairs are almost done too. Next week is the engine (replacing the cracked heads, new rod bearings, new rings, etc.) and once that's on the chassis I can put the body back on and spend the rest of the winter working on the little bits like making the sunroof work.

Nope... 2.0 from a 91 Passat... On Digi 2... Supersprint header, mid pipe and can, lightened flywheel, cai, and a few other tricks.. 153whp

Got a '12 Jetta TDI. Got it for the fuel economy aspect. Now I'm waiting to see if when they recall for the emissions issue of it'll effect it any. Hope not. As for the emission I wouldn't care if it looked like I was rolling coal everywhere I went. Lol
