This seat? What's wrong?

Yeah. I finally got it. It seems to be ok quality. It having never had others I don't have any room for comparison.

I was googling cafe seats to see what other people thought of this guy's work, and I came across your thread. I actually know the seat builder, and I have seen his work up close. I've tried my hand at doing fiberglass before, and his work is way nicer than mine. I won't give away any of his secrets, but he uses multiple layers which is as he says "reinforced with laminate bulker" layer of a stronger material than cloth or mat. I'm not trying to stir the pot. I just wanted to vouch for what I've seen and know to be a good product.

Hey everyone. Hope you don't mind my input. Ordered one of these last week Wednesday and received it in the mail today. I've worked with glass before, and I'm quite impressed by the quality of this seat for the price. Its thick, not a lot of twist or flex, and has great lines. Next bike I build will have one of these seats on it.

i got a seat that looked just like that from either airtech or glass from the past (can't remember which!) and not to threadjack too much, but how the hell do you upholster these things? what's with those stupid ridges? seems like they'd just make upholstering a pain and for what purpose?

rigidity.

oooo... good point. i was thinking they must have had some mystical upholstery related reason... i'll just pad over them!

Little late getting her, was just informed of this site.

But, we do pay taxes, 1. 2. Laminate bulker is an aircraft grade reinforcement (I've a little experience in aviation). Put simply, it makes the seat stronger, if anyone else says otherwise, they are wrong.

The reason we can sell so cheap? We buy extremely large quantities, and it's a two man operation. I hand lay each and every seat myself (Little over 300 in the last few months). You can read through my feedback on eBay, have not had a single one complain about quality. Roccity actually bought one, had no complaints about it as far as I heard.

Also, if anyone has purchased a seat, and haven't put a cover on it, we've finally gotten around to sewing up some seat covers.

I appreciate all you guys who have bought seats, thanks!

My seat was used for all of 150 miles before it went on the shelf. I am STILL waiting on the custom seat cushion i had made to BE customized.

What experience I did have on it was solid. Not much fanciness you can put into a plastic part, but it did its job.

Rock,

Just curious, if you don't mind my asking; What did you pay for a cover/pad?

I remember your username, it's been a long time since you purchased one. Seems like forever to wait for a cover.

it was a nice seat, I left feedback but never heard from you about what you thought of mine. also... using bulker is nice but I find that it soaks up so much resin that you're better off just adding another layer of fiberglass, it soaks up less resin and adds more strength for the weight. so you're just a little shop out of your garage? cool

Your seat was nice as well. Considerably larger than mine, though.

Bulker is considerably stronger than just glass when layered properly. At 2mm thick, it is actually lighter than the amount of glass and resin it would take to build up to that thickness, while in effect using less resin. There's a reason it's used in aircraft. But, it's shatter resistant, and offers thread retention, and also decreases the chance of stress cracks in the gelcoat.

We have a full machine shop set up. You want something done on a CNC, rear sets, custom bolts, whatever, we can do it. I just said that I hand lay each and every one these personally.

Yea, you're not just whistlin' dixie.

I had a seat cushion made to what I thought were "exacting" specifications.

Turns out the dude sucks at this job, but he did give me a good start.

Fast forward and I still ask my wife to whip out her sewing machine and fix the damnable thing.

Has anyone ever bought this seat pan for a cb 450 k6? If so, how do they fit? Any frame chopping involved? i'd measure my own frame but i dont have my bike here at home atm. :/

I'd say stiffness vs strength in this case, bulker is just polyester and fill, it has no inherent strength, it just keeps your glass layers apart so they're harder to flex, but actual ultimate strength of the part isn't increased

I have sold a few to guys with 450's. Have not had any complaints on them. I assume the rear hoop on the frame would have to go and be replaced with a loop
