Tonight in the garage I......

Real bikes are built in garages.
Here's a little thread to keep track of everyones nightly accomplishments in the garage. I'll go first.

Tonight in the garage I..........

Broke down a pair of xs650 petcocks to find out I either need to replace these leaking little pigs or replace them with the non vacuum ones that mikesxs sells. I think I'll do the later. This is a shit design and in my searching actually found out they were recalled. I think I will commence to drinking beer now.

See how it works. Enter what you did tonight in your garage.

I'm actually excited since I've had some garage time.

Lets see - boxed up some parts to ship to another member, gathered up some suspension bits that need work, tried to straighten a mag wheel, worked on fitting a fiberglass seat, and then got ready to come to work for the night. :(

Attempted to make my LED turnsignals work. I bought the flasher needed for the LED, and also the resistors and wired them up. Still no flash. Initally I ran just the flasher and then installed the resistors and nothing blinks but they light up. Maybe its a bad flasher. Never the less, I also rewired my rear turn signals to run as running lights and installed the red LEDs out back. Previously the only source of light in the back of the bike was the brake/running light which is located on the right side and gave me nothing on the left side.

Guess I will still manually flash the blinkers for now.

EDIT: Blink blink blinkidy blink!! Got them working. Love when it is an easy fix like swapping around some wires!!!!!!!!

Got a lot done on Mike's hardtail frame. Yes, it isn't an eye trick, this is a cb350 frame.

Fun project.

Recap: Two weeks ago I bought some snow tires on Toyota rims, I had to swap them to rims to fit my truck. It took about 5 hours once I figured out to work the machine, run in to town to buy a valve stem and re do the beads on two of the rims.

The next day I tried to swap the wheels on my truck. I had stripped two of the lug nuts. When they started to round, I brought on the heat to no avail. I was advised to buy a nut extractor tool. basically a socket with reverse threads on the inside. They stripped the nuts worse...

Planning for the worse, I bought all the rear end wheel studs Canadian Tire had (eight), 20 new lug nuts for all around just to be safe and some synthetic dif' oil (FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!!).

Which brings me to tonight...

I had completely stripped three of five of my lug nuts on my left side rear wheel of my truck, the right side came free no prob...

First I attempted to use a torch to cut the nuts off of the studs but for fear of melting my aluminum rims, I attempted to remove the axle from the housing but with the wheel and drum on I couldn't push the axle in enough to get the C clip out... I tried the torch again but ran out of O2...

Next I tried to drill the nut in to two pieces in attempt to remove them, at this point I had accidentally drilled in to the rim (dont worry, its only from a 70's t bird)... and given up on salvaging the rim for future use.

When this did'nt work I did what I should have done form the start, drilled the wheel studs and finally got the rim off.

With the rim and drum off I noticed that my axle seal was leaking so I couldn't go any further tonight. I'm going to CT tomorrow night to pick up my new seal and finish the rear end.

Hopefully I wont have such a problem with the front, I still need to source front studs just in case...

I'm having a beer now.

I want to make a new body for the sidecar. We are supposed to race at El Mirage the 13th and 14th but the high desert got some unseasonal rain and it looks like the race meeting is not going to happen. I sat out in the garage tonight looking at thesidecar and trying to figure how I'm going to do it. It will be in fiberglass as all I can do with aluminum is put dents in it.
The new bodywill lokk solething like this.

Awesome fellas! Lets keep them coming. I always wonder when I'm out in the garage how many other DTT folks are doing the same. My guess is always A LOT.

I unfortunatly didnt do shit. At least not in the garage. Just spent the night collecting parts for that work of art you see above this^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Just got back from the auto club.

Picked up the seal this morning, tapped it in place, replaced my axle, cleaned my dif/ cover and sealed all that up, re filled the oil, got the wheel on and torqued them down and now I'm home.

Making lunch for the wife for her work tonight.

Just finished new lower control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar end links...'02 Grand Am GT, no motorcycle work...but greasy fingers!

Tonight (ok, today) I painted my engine...

Then brought them inside the house for the night...good thing I have a wife that doesn't mind engine parts on the dining room table!

That still counts. Looking like I might get a bunch of beer drinking done in the garage tonight. And that counts too!

Well, under the carport and in the drive way...

My son and I replaced the headliner in his car. I replaced the fuel filter in my bro's Mustang. And I gave the Hayabusa a thorough cleaning in anticipation of tomorrows ride.

I pulled the front end off a donor cb450 to put on a cb350 with jim. We pulled most of the 350 front end off. Cleaned and painted the new front end.

Polished my xs400 mag and prepped it for paint. Finally started sanding and polishing D.I.D. rims i found in a bike boneyard.

Spent most of day making stock forks stock :D
I spent this morning making a fork compressor for USD, radial brake Kawasaki 600 forks, fitted new lighter Racetech springs
guy decided not to fit them to SV650 as one fork on his Kawasaki is bent so he needs a stock fork
This evening I almost finished headlight 'ears' for Suzuki forks.
The clamps are almost done and brackets are filed down to shape.
Several hours with a Dremel and files ::)
Working double shifts for another 2 weeks

FTried to set teh timing on teh GT750 only to realize that I have on dead coil and one apparent;ly dead DYNA S module. Need to do more testing before I throw it all waya and replace with an Ignitech system.

Around noon, I decided to pull my latest "project" out of the garage.
I did a refresh on our back-up lawn tractor, new spindle bearings in the deck, new blades, new idler pulleys, new battery, new fuel lines and rebuilt the carburator, changed oil and filter.

After a few cranks it spluttered to life, as it warmed up it was running strong. I put it in first, cleared the garage by six feet, and it died. ::)
So i push in the clutch, it starts right up. I start to ease the clutch out and it bogs, push in the clutch and it runs fine. ???

So.... I get off take a walk around it and look under the back......

SHIT!!! The transaxel has split down the center. :'(

So, I spent the rest of the day pulling everything off it that would work as "spares" for our primary mower. Tomorrow I load what's left on a trailer to take to the scrapyard.

I got the rear/ drive shaft seal replaced on my A833 OD Tranny for my truck, I looked through my other spare parts, tried to mock up as much as can on the floor, got the throw out bearing on the input shaft and attached to the clutch fork. Right now I'm busy trying to figure out what bolts to use for he clutch to the fly wheel and what side of the fly wheel the clutch goes on...

Ive been working on the seat for my bike, Ive decided I need to cut it down the middle and widen it by about two inches. Thinking about buying a rim and spokes for the rear and trying to think of how im going to pay for it.

Ive also been toying with the idea of welding maybe four nuts on my tank to mount a frame to hold my head light/ fairing I'm working on.
