So far so good. I have a 73 that I'm going to redo as well, although I will be going a different route.

Just out of curiosity, will you be welding up the frame seams to stiffen it up?

oh, and In!

Hi hooligan what route are you off down with yours? Yes the rear seams I am planning on welding up as I have trimmed them for the seat to fit better but I am unsure if I will do the ones under the tank I’m still undecided what’s your take on it ? I don’t know wether to brace the seat stays aswell with some round tube I’ve seen it done on a few and it can look nice

I had the chance to ride mine before tear down. The whole bike, while it held the corners fine, just seemed to flex a bit too much. After some research decided to weld the seams to stiffen it up. Might be unnecessary now as I'm sticking to the basic CL design but will be doing it up with a bit more suspension travel to make it more off-road worthy. A small ADV style bike is what I have in mind.

I guess if you are keeping on the road with the intention to run twisty roads, I would probably do it. Some say it's really isn't required, but a lot of the racers do it for the track, so at the end of the day, what can it hurt? I paid a case of beer to have it done so that helped me make my choice.

i was thinking about boxing the seat rails in as they only have part of them making a full square if you get me ? i have a welder to hand so wouldnt be any trouble for me to weld them and need to weld some supports in for the seat to sit on anyways so think i might do it. did you weld up every seam on the frame or is there particular ones ?did you grind them right down to weld them so its almost like there isnt a seam more of just a weld join?

No, didn't grind them down. Just ground enough to remove the paint. Welded up the top of the back bone, reinforced the crappy welds on the front down tube at the cradle and welded up seams on the rear around the shock mounts and tail section. My frame is uncut as well so I don't need the cross bar.

i welded some cross bars for the seat and to hold the battery in today and i am going to weld all the seams may as well il probably only wish i had done it once its all complete otherwise. is your build on here hooligan so i can take a look?

No, it's really not a build yet. When I have it on the table, I'll start posting stuff about it. I did post up about the welding up the frame though.
