Using 12v micro indicators, 6v system

Been Around the Block
I am charging my 6v battery by putting it and the old one in series and using my 12v charger, works great.

Now I'm not planning on changing the bike to 12v yet, but as I currently don't have any indicators, I'd like to add some.
Can I run the 6v supply through 2 identical 12v LED indicators in parallel?

Usually, yes. But they're going to be kind of dim.

You can use a 6V - 12V DC/DC converter, but they're not very efficient. You'll lose some power along the way. Might not be enough to matter, though.

Thanks,
I was looking at the led flasher unit on your website, thinking they may not flash well either with my original system

Can anyone help a 6v Honda newbie...

I believe the finned device to be a rectifier, its relatively new so has to be a replacement. How would I know if it has a regulator built in?

Also, the cylinder with 3 wires, an alloy can housing about small egg cup sized, what is this?

Green/Black/Gray wire onm most Honda's are the turn signal flasher....That is about the right size and right wires for it....

Go here: http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/WiringDiagrams/MCwiring.php#class

He has a CD175 Schematic there.....You may have to screen capture it to print it, but it is a useful resource there.

Great stuff thanks.
I have got hold of a Haynes manual also, will take a look through.

The Sparck flasher relay works on both 6v and 12v. I have one on a 6v bike.

You can test it if you have a variable output power supply. If the unit has a black wire then it almost definitely has a regulator.

Great,
Will check tomorrow, my bike is in the machine service shop at work, bit of a pain but I promised the boss it won't be in my garage until I finish my kitchen remodel!

According to the Haynes there is no black wire, but like you say if it has one it likely has regulation, well it has a black wire and tracing it through, it seems to end up at the + terminal on the battery with a relatively new ring terminal crimped on.

That's the good news...
The not so good is that further investigation is revealing wiring that is not the best standard.
Also, the original reason for looking at all this is the added load of indicators, because running for more than 40 mins with the headlight on starts to take power away from the coils and make the bike bog down.
I think I may need to do something with the stator, either replace or go up to a 12v system like folks have suggested.

Damn I just bought a new 6v battery

Funny you should say that

Ordered one of these to try yesterday.
I know eBay Chinese crap is, well, crap. But it can't be any worse than the 6v 35w thing in there (that's bodged in and doesn't fit right)
