vintage race CB350 - last 10% is the hardest

Re: vintage race CB350 - exhaust bracketry

Exhaust bracket v1.4 completed. This one is a keeper. I'm going to file down the bracket near the rear shock mount so it doesn't stick out so far. And I still need to shorten the V&H muffler canister and baffle about 8" and weld two more spring hooks onto the mid pipe. But after a long summer spent on other projects I'm finally making progress on the CB350 again.

Re: vintage race CB350 - exhaust bracketry

Spring hook tabs welded onto mid-pipe to secure it to V&H slip on. Not as nice as my friend Isaac's welds but it should hold. Besides a lot more practice welding SS I need to practice keeping the torch aimed at the weld while it cools for 5-6 seconds of post-flow to limit weld oxidation.

Re: vintage race CB350 - custom shorty V&H exhaust

Finally got the exhaust all done.

Now onto paint, change fork oil, bend the foot peg plates outward for swing arm clearance, re-fit the ignition coils and safety wire a few more things. She's getting there....

Re: vintage race CB350 - custom shorty V&H exhaust

Rode the Aprilia to our local Bikes and Breakfast gathering this morning. Really nice turnout. Probably 100+ bikes, about 2/3 modern bikes, 1/3 vintage. Chill atmosphere and comfortable weather.

I think this is a Honda CB350F?

Honda NSR250

Honda Trail 70

Travertson V-Rex

Ducati 748R

Ducati MHR Mille

Re: vintage race CB350 - custom shorty V&H exhaust

Thanks man! This build has been going on for so long that they changed the rules on me by requiring all race bikes to have mufflers so that required a rethink. It took a while and many iterations to get that exhaust right but I think it works now. I'm happy with how it turned out in the end.

Re: vintage race CB350 - paint

Painted fairing inside and out.

Seat and fender, too.

Look at that sparkle!

Rustoleum sandable primer, Eastwood Alumablast paint, Eastwood 2K AeroSpray High-Gloss Clear.

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

These pics are the best I can do until I get back home from 2 week training. I really need to roll it outside into the light where you can really get a good look at it instead of inside my cramped 1 car garage. Fuel system is all plumbed. Bike not kick starting. Hear a little chugga chug but won't fire. Right cylinder has spark but is flooded, spark plug is wet. Left cylinder is bone dry so obviously not getting any fuel at all. Need to be methodical in troubleshooting. I suppose I'll start with checking the float bowl on the left cylinder and double check the air screws.

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

That's what I'm talking about. Hell yeah man

LOL yeah no tractor tires here. If anything, some racers would say my front wheel is too wide but it's the right size for the tire I chose. WM3 front and rear rims with 100/90-18 Continental ContiRoadAttack2 CR race compound tires.

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

Check these guys out . . . I had some large round number plates in cling-on material made for my Shelby Cobra- nice product and easily removed.

Love it. Big white number panels?

Yeah everything else will be vinyl. Will keep it simple. Probably do white number plates with black outline, large THR decals on the fairing, Honda HM wing decals on the tank. But I dunno. I might go all Team McLaren F1 and go nuts with the chrome look and brushed aluminum vinyl tape.

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

Thanks! Will check them out. I know it probably bothers some people that my seat doesn't perfectly match the contour of the seat hoop but I decided to keep it that way for aerodynamic purposes :D Now instead of being a giant wind sock, air can flow out the back of the seat.

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

I got four number plates for $65 shipped- Three larger 17" dia. or so for sides and hood and smaller 15" dia. for trunk. smaller ones might be perfect for the sides of the fairing . . .

Re: vintage race CB350 - bodywork painted and installed

Bloody hell! The bike runs! In my late night delirium, I had accidentally put the right coil wires on the left coil and vice versa. Swapped the wires and she fired right up. My kill switch works just fine also. Now I'm dialing in the carbs.
