The VJMC is hosting a custom & modified motorcycle show at Barber this year. Chattahoochee Skunkworks is coordinating the show.

That should be great! (And packed.) Will definitely check it out, and if we were driving I'd drag the Hunley down there.

I think it will be popular. The VJMC magazine has started showing more custom and modified bikes in the last year. I personally think it is boring to attend a show and see 30 show room condition Honda CB750s in a row. I'd rather see a garage build where a guy used what he had available, some skills and a good imagination.

Am I remembering correctly that way back in the day the VJMC actively shunned anything modified? It's one of the reasons DTT was launched - there wasn't much of a home for those of us willing and eager to take a grinder to a stock survivor CB550 or XS650 etc.

I dropped my membership back then. I didn't start back until the magazine started have custom/modified bike features. The same with the Antique Motorcycle Club of America (AMCA). When I was in Daytona this past March for the shows/swap there were more modified bikes in the VJMC show than stock.

I've typically avoided the VJMC stuff for this very conversation. I went to an event a few years back on my CB750 chopper and I felt like a Goth chick at a Southern Baptist wedding.

Must be some new blood in the VJMC now that are good with mods. Not everyone needs pure resto or 100% stock bikes. I like all the flavors.

Glad to see they've evolved - I can appreciate the position of purists who love a concourse restoration - I love original bikes and have restored a few.

But it was militant back in the day and that put me off.
