VM36 Throttle Cable?

Is there supposed to be a plastic shim or something to hold the throttle cable in place on the VM36? My cable keeps on slipping out of the slide.

You mean the small barrel end keeps coming out of the slide in the carb, right?

If so, there could be something wrong with your cable. There's no plastic shim or anything in there.

I'm using this cable.

It actually seems that the issue is that the cable falls into the top cap since it has no nut/bolt on it.

Do you have the adjuster screw in the top cap that the cable goes through?

That's very strange......

Stryfe, can you take a couple pictures of your carb, and the problem areas?

There should be a small round plate between the spring and slide that locks the cable end into the slide.Do you have that?

check on the shim from Jimmer.
Could also be your slide is dragging, or the needle is bent. Slack in the calbe can cause the thing to unlock from the slide as it's only held in place by the spring-pressure.

I got the clip you guys were talking about. Pulled it outta a VM36 at work.

Anyone know of a good slanted (so it clears frame) universal cable?

You need the right caps for your carbs - with threaded ends for the cable adjuster to mount to - that prevent your cable jacket from entering the carb body.

You can get these in both straight and curved to improve clearance to the frame etc. Throttle cables for VM carbs are not going to come with curved metal ends already on them.

Snap a pic of your carbs.

Here are my VM34's.
