What does everyone do for their "real" job?

I'm currently a Paramedic in Afghanistan. So I don't get to wrench or ride my bikes much. I'm hoping it will all change soon!

What company you with over there? My buddy is a Firefighter/Paramedic in Tampa and is looking at a company in Afghanistan. He was almost good to go with ARAMCO in Saudi but his blood tests blew that up... His brother is in Malaysia as a flight instructor as well....

I currently work with Onsite OHS. They are a sub contractor of Dyncorp-Intl. Dyncorp is hiring all the time. But to be honest, just like any other way of gettnig a job, I don't know anyone here there was hired without knowing someone. But it wouldn't hurt to put in an application and hound the hell out of them!

Ok cool, ya he's lookin at Dynacorp as they have helo medic positions available and he's got a buddy there in that position. He was raised in Saudi till he was 15 cause his dad did the same thing as an aircraft mechanic so he knows whats up. How long you been over there?

have I posted in this thread? I can't even remember. I'm a graphic designer. It's a cliché, but that's alright because I do fine art on the side and a lot of illustration for skate companies and local motorcycle groups too.

This is a kick ass thread!

I went to school for Industrial Design. I spent 2 years working at ski resorts and travelling. Had a F&*KING BLAST! I worked the last two years for a friend of mine who's business is restoring and building wooden sailing yachts in England. I was the guy who did all the ordering and paperwork and general running of the managerial side of the business. I finally Came home to VA to be closer to my long suffering girlfriend. I am now working in high end retail part time while I search for a big boy job. Money is as tight as a ducks arse but at least I get to see my girlfriend more than a few times a year.

Anyone can get into this area if you have the cash to get the qualifications or a employer to pay for it. Working on subs sounds exciting but in reality they are dirty, cramped and smelly things! On the other hand not everyone can say they have been on one.:))

Been here almost a year now. If he can get on with Dyncorp as a flight medic, thats the way to go then.

Marine Electrician. 41 years, now retired. Many of them on O boat and some on Upholders. WAB is correct, cramped , dirty and smelly. Have lots of scars on my balding head too from valve stems. On the up side, you learn a lot of patience and how to get along with people. Where you at Barrow?

I've had a good bit of experience in the marine industry. Especially wooden boats. Now you wait till your balls deep in the bilges of a Brixham trawler with a dry rot problem, leaky decks and a diesel tank that's just rusted through. That's fun!

I love the idea of testing constraints on equipment and machinery. I have a perverse love for stuff like that. The difference between a watertight and airtight door. That kind of stuff really interests me.
