Rarely, but there's some legacy stuff that still does. All new development is IE8+....
 
It would seem that way but if I'm riding with people and they don't know I'm a medic then I don't advertise it. Too much liability and people are too sue happy anymore.

That's not the whole story on fuel to be sure. Conventional gasoline has a lower heating value of 116,090 BTUs/US gallon or 42.791 MJ/Kg which is more appropriate. Fuel combusts on a stoichiometric basis at around 14.7:1 on mass not on volume, so specific gravity is important. Size matters :)

If your fuel burns at the same Stoic ratio and has the same density, it will potentially release the same energy as regular gasoline. If it releases that energy at a faster rate than gasoline it could potentially make more power as long as ignition timing is optimized to get peak pressure at the right time.

If your fuel has a lower SG and runs a lower ratio to air, it will burn more fuel and make more power for the same complete combustion. If not, it won't.

As you pointed out, Ethanol has a much lower energy density than gasoline at 26.952 MJ/Kg. BUT it burns at 9:1 releasing 2.99 MJ per KG of air consumed. Methanol is 3.11/Kg of air and makes 17% more power than gasoline if optimized to suit.

So if jetting is adjusted for the addition of ethanol and compression is raised to take advantage of the higher octane of ethanol, a ethanol blended gasoline will make more power than straight gas.

I'd be happy to add your fuel to the Alternative Fuel Comparison chart we developed recently for an Alternative fuel transportation lobby if it is intended for transportation use. It's all chemical soup to me.

So basically, you wish you had my job. ;) i kid i kid. I do a lot of client side development but i also do a good bit of ux design and php programming. I dont think its possible to only do client side. Unfortunately everyone wants a developer who can do it all. Here's to another web guy. I wonder how many of us are on here?

No, I agree. And to be honest, I like doing both server and client side... even a little SQL....the few times I've tried to handle all the client side stuff while letting a co-worker handle the webservice/DAL side, I about jumped out the window. Love what I do, but it can be stressful. I find motorcycles therapeutic....both riding and working on them....good way to chill out. ::)
 
I'm in a similar job. The past few years I've been mainly a front-end developer, but in my new job you have to do it all since you're usually the whole team. Took a bit to get used to but I like it. Still have a lot to learn with the back-end coding but it is fun. Would still rather front-end but still good.

Great understanding- a few years of knowledge wrapped up in there. We have unique solutions since we create a bespoke molecule and can tailor the ratio of carbons to hydrogens, and then add oxygens to ensure complete combustion. We have targeted ethanol as a solution to rid gasoline of its corrosive nature, increase performance/fuel economy (get the energy density back up to E0 gasoline), keep octane up and replace MTBE, MMT and TEL (competition-only) as additives. We have trade-offs in each areas but tried to create an all around solution that would appeal to the high performance crowd and the greenies. We're made from recycled cardboard!!!

Furanic biofuels from cellulosic biomass are interesting if they can overcome the excess carbon molecules and GHG issues that result. Furanic plastics look like a huge potential though. Lost of patents already out there to tip toe around, but I'm sure they won't be insurmountable barriers.
