What does everyone do for their "real" job?

Remote Camp Manager for a Support services company.

Currently a 512 man Pipeline construction camp in North QLD Australia.

Before that I was a Hotel/Nightclub manager for several years.

I'm pretty new around here & spent awhile reading thru this last night. It's cool to see all the different things everyone does.

I am a computer geek that ended up as a network administrator / programmer for a commercial fire & security business. I worked for the same company for 15 years then a friend & I started our own company in early 2012. We mostly provide high end IP video & access control solutions to commercial properties. It can be fun however I would rather own an Alpaca farm. :D

Sorry to hear that Chris. But good for you for getting more education. I'm sure it'll work out in the long run.

Thanks Rich, I'm actually pretty stoked on it now. Blessing in disguise for sure.

Jaguar technician at a Jag/Land Rover dealership. Pretty cool gig, provided I don't have to deal with the clients. Some of the older Jaguar people are pretty cool though.

May be working on a '66 E-Type this fall

I work for Sony. My title is "Project Facilitator and Black Belt". I use whatever statistical analysis tools are necessary to drive process improvements in a manufacturing environment.

Professional geek, essentially.

Six Sigma Black Belt?

Yes sir! Slave to DMAIC at your service.

A six sigma belt is something that's on my "To-get" list for sure. I plan on buying an actual karate belt to strut around the office in once I get the certification.

It's not as funny as you think... It's also quite offensive to actual black belts. (Martial arts) There's always one in the crowd.

In any case, I've found the "lean" tools to be just as useful as the full toolset. When you get to experimental designs it gets really interesting. I'm in manufacturing so I get to use them all the time but it's surprising to me how often I think about using the tools in every day life. A simple run chart of gas mileage is a great indicator of maintenance needs.
