Why was a "bobber and chopper" section added to this "cafe" board?

I personally feel that this is a mistake. There are plenty of resources out there for bobbers and choppers. I love them, and have owned them, but I don't want to go to one site for all of my motorcycle needs. I dread that the Do The Ton web site will become the Wallmart of motorcycle discussion boards. I also feel the same with regards to the "cages" section and the "fighters" section.

It was added because some of us that have built cafes would like to build a bobber as well. And yes the bikes may be a on a few different boards, but maybe we want our friends here on this board to see and give input on what we're building. Also there are already a few bobbers in the big arse section. This way people are free to build what they want without having folks say "Why are you building a bobber here?" In the same vein you as a member have the freedom to not look at the bobber section. Right? ;D

Just voicing an opinion, and asking a question..... that all. Thanks for your input.

You know, a few years ago i got onto a "Chopper / Bobber" website because I am wanting to turn an XL350 into a bobber style bike. When I started asking questions I was told that a metric bike could never be what an American bike is and they proceeded to remove my profile. I don't care what you ride as long as you are up on two wheels. To those who say "if it ain't a harley, it ain't shit"; I say bullshit!!!!!!!

my $.02

A few years ago, bobbers and cafe racers were the same idea- just different sides of the Atlantic.

There you go.. That is the answer...

Cafe Racers was the main bike genre from the 50's-mid 70's in Britian.
Bobbers, (not the long nosed choppers that started to become popular in the 70's), were the American equalivent of the same time period.

Both had the same philosophy, strip, cut & hack everything down for greater speed...

The reason why I put the bobber/chop section on the DTT is basically for 3 reasons:

1. Im building 2 of them
2. I dont want to go anywhere else for that kind of material. Id rather everyone come here.
3. I know that may of our DTT members area also building Bobber/Chops and Id like to see their project and I value their ideas and comments.

Thats the reason why I put this section up.

I dont see it as being the "walmart" of motorcycle forums. I see it rather as 4000 of my friends all shooting the shit about bikes that I like...

Now that fucking bullshit...I cant stand forums like that...
Its not only harley's forums, Id get that kind of shit from other cafe racer forums.."If it aint british, it aint worth shit".. so fuck them all.. I wont stand for that crap on DTT and Ive deleted members accounts in the past because tsome were starting that kind of crap here..... (sorry.. just me ranting...)..

I thinks it's cool this forum is evolving and developing a personality. Why not let it run its natural course?

hey,

as a guy that is not new to mechanics but to building bikes, i value the info/ advice and comrotary of this forum. i also enjoy checking out the builds of some of the best bikes i've seen built, be it a cafe or a bobber/chopper.
so i am stoked to see the two on this forum, since i am building both, as are many here.
so i agree, you have the option of not looking.........
just my 2 cents.
later.

I've built lots of bikes over the years. The most recent was a true cafe built off of a metric bike core since I can't afford anything else! :D

in my bike building I have discovered many things that I liked/didn't like in certain categories of bikes. I want to just build somehing that looks badass and runs and rides great. I like to defy categories. Personally, I love that this section was added. I think that it shows the site has a conscience for new horizons and innovators. It isn't the mimicry that we're after, it's the innovation. The more we embrace, the more branching out we all do, and creativity flourishes! I love to see that. I think it brings out the best in us all. Bravo DTT!

And on to the next sunrise......

Gday All,
I for one, applaud this section being added.

After "lurking" around many other forums, things that I have noticed about DTT are:-
1. There is definately a sense of comradery, and a genuine attitude towards helping others regardless of their choice of bike.
2. Open minded attitude, without instantly dismissing the bike because of maker.
3. A lack of meat headed, opinionated F*%k-wits that know everything and have an opinion on EVERTHING!!! even if they wouldn't know which way their arse points.

SO, yes, I think the adding of this section is fantastic, and when I finish the KH, I WILL be building a Bobber.

So guys, keep this site inviting and friendly.

Just my 2 cents, but I will have to round up to 5 cents, cause thats the smallest coin in Aust :p

Cheers Jase

if it has a motor and 2 wheels... i will wrench on it, and talk about it... hell i build more bobs and chops than i do cafes... plus i get some of the best feed back and ideas from this site!

There have been some excellent post on this subject, however i feel i must speek up as well. I'm assuming that the poster is asking for opinions since he/she made the post here instead of sending a pm to admin.

I for one believe DTT did the right thing by adding this section. The majority of its membership type will not change nor will the way the site is viewed. I also believe that the true sense of community that exist on DTT will not change. Adding this section only inhances the site. As did adding the cages and fighters sections. Those who wish not to view this content can simply chose not to enter these sections. No harm no foul. DTT is and always will be a cafe forum first. It will never be a Walmart biker forum as stated.
There is a comradery that exist on DTT that I've not found on other sites. The DTT membership is what sets it apart from other forums . Most of us found our way here because we all have something in common. However, most of us seem to have a tolerance for others who possess a taste different than our own.
I'd love to hear other opinions now that its been asked.

Thanks Gents... for all the support!!.. Its much appreciated and Im very happy to see that other guy, (other than myself...) see how close the bobber and cafe racer genre of bikes really is... Its like having a few kids actually...ya love them all differently but all equally.. ;D

As long as you can ride it with a vintage jacket worth more than the bike, I can see Noel rockin' it.

I don't care what we talk about here, as long as it rocks, rolls, and chews up pavement at a rate that makes you cry for your momma. I really appreciate this forum, and it is the little quirks that will keep me coming back.

BHAHAHA.. you da man!!.. ;D... ;D.. geez.. I have to many damn jackets...

This is the first post here that makes me feel like maybe my bike doesn't fit in. When I started riding someone told me that bright colors were the most important safety gear on two wheels. So I found a full armor Joe Rocket jacket that looks like something the Red Power Ranger would wear to a disco party, and it was super cheap. I've been thinking of finding something a bit more subtle, now I guess I'll have to if I want to fit in. ;)
