XS250 cafe burner

haha yeah, but seriously though i cant wait to ride this thing! nah unfortunatly that wasnt me ;) i guess we owe it to the guys from dotheton!

im laying down 2 coats of prime 3 coats of topcoat and 2 clear :) sofar at the first layer of topcoat on the frame and the forks and tress will get their first coat of satin black tomorrow. the appliance enamel is turning out pretty good sofar, havent had any qualms with it and as you can see its laying down nicely 8) wheels are also going satin black with a set of firestones! i found a place also in heidelburg called antique tires and they sell a heap of old style rubbers, even firestones with white walls.....mmmmmm haha

oh and what are tins?? ::) like your exhaust can?

Tehehe :p i know that tyre place its just up the road from my Boat motor mechanic and Tins painter (tins, front/rear gaurd and tank) i didnt know they did bike rubber, now i do LOL... I hope you have a heater in your workshop cause man its gotten COLD! LOL... Good luck with the rest of the painting tomorrow, Cheers Andycafe..

Ps; just a note with the wheels, the guys that put my rubber on, were very happy to find out that they were powder coated, as they have had troubles with dudes coming in with rims that have just been painted and the paint chipping off around the edges when they put rubber on. my wheels only cost $27 each to have satin black powder coat applied.. Just a note..

27 a pop for powder is stupid cheap! they have about 10 bucks of powder on them alone, then you factor media... no idea how he did them so cheap...NO IDEA

nope no heater, i just wear a wife beater....... underneath a shirt and two flanno's. keeps me warm enough!

thats a good point about the wheels being PCed, i think i might actually get that done because they are copping all the flack when riding, you want a nice tough surface. for 27 bucks a pop did that include prep??

Not including prep, but im sure it would only be about $30-$40 for them both to be blasted, so to get them all done for under $100 would be a sweet deal!!

sounds fair to me!

man i gotta slow down something CHRONIC!!! my swing arm bubbled yesterday, so i let it dry, sanded and cleaned today, resprayed and more bubble! its taking me twice as long because i want instant gratification (one of my major weakness') so tomorrow i gotta clean it good and propper :'( oh well, frames almost ready for clear coat!!! yay!

Hey man, sorry to hear that you paints giving you grief!!!! That's part of the reason i asked you if you had a heater in your workshop, most paints don't like the cold... and your well being of course LOL :D Are you doing light coats? or the i want it done now coats? hehe :-X i used to do those coats, but I've learnt my lesson (i think...) good luck tomorrow aye Andycafe...

i try to get in there before it gets below 10deg, as the can warns! and im doing fairly light coats, but i lose track as to where i have already sprayed and may go over the same part a few times........ man i gotta stop forgetting to wear a mask! my nose and throat are killing, it cant be good!

LOL ;D its cause you keep forgetting to wear a mask that you keep forgetting!! LOL ;D and the nose and throat soreness is just marijuana swine flu lol!!! :D but seriously even though its says don't use below 10deg for best results around 20deg is good 15 deg ok :)

ok, so i have removed the starter motor, man this thing is heavy!! so thats a bit of cheap weight reduction ;D. although before i was going to clean the engine i wanted to check a few things, i.e. timing, points gap. but the fricken tappet covers wont budge! and i can see evidence of removal because of the slight burring on the nuts. anywhooooo look what i descovered when taking the alternator cover off :((((

so the frame is done, forks & clamps are done, butttt the bloody son of a gun of a swing arm is driving me nuts!, not matter what i do clean, sand, clean, sand it hates me! thought i got on top of it when the primer layed on nicely. 24 hours later i put on its first coat of gold, came up like a 12yr old with serious acne man! blotches everywhere, im beginning to think i should have just handed all the parts to the pros and get it PCed, things like these reduce my motorvation stat!

still to do.... find a new alternator cover???? help!
................. throw the bloody swingarm over the fence!
................. clean and spray the engine
................. order my parts from mikesxs mmmmmmmmmm (coils/swingarm bushes)
................. clean and spray brackets etc.
................. steering roller bearing kit
................. build the forks and put the engine and forks on the frame!

hopefully in the next 2 weeks it could be a rolling chassis ;D

heard that putting the spraycan in a hot water bath, before application warms the paint up, sounds like it could be worth a shot in your case.

Hey man, sorry to hear your paints still giving you grief! It could be the combo of primer and topcoat that your using don't like each other!! I used Hichem etch primer with K&H topcoats and had no probs. If you have no joy finding a replacement alternator cover that looks like its repairable. I'm having a hair line crack fixed at the mo on mine which runs from the kick start hole to one of the other mount holes and it will be as good as new, with yours it doesn't look like its in a highly visible spot so may be and option? Ps avoid throwing things over the fence as you tend to rip your jeans retrieving them LOL :) :D ;D

AH HAH! my jeans have already been ripped ::) but from me jumping a fence into a rose bush...... :-*
and its not a crack, its completely snapped off, so maybe it could still be fixed??

ill have to sand the swing arm and redo again! thanks liam ill give the warm water a go..... fingers crossed.

prime and top coat is same brand so its got to be something else! maybe the position of the moon???

LOL Nah its your tounge LOL :) :D ;D Tehehe....... and if that peice has broken off, it would have to be blasted to clean the weld area completly and if your planing on polishing the side covers that wont happen?? aaww noo!!

nope not polishing! its going matt black!, any ideas where i can take it to get repaired?

thinking tomorrow to completely strip the swingarm to bare metal again and clean it like theres no tomorrow, or yesterday?

but yeah its gonna get shown whos boss!

Henlor metal works just down the road from Vic Mc Wreck is the place where mine is getting the treatment, if you go in and see Mike with your peice he can let you know if it can be done and whats required... You show that swingarm LOL!!! ;D

Hey man I'm glad you liked that Richmond cafe racer link, i was just looking over you build nice stuff its always nice to have a wk shop aye!! that motorcycle wreckers your talking about wouldn't happen to be Vic Motorcycle Wreckers would it? Heidelberg West Mologa St? Just happens to be just around the corner from my work home base too, They are the biggest in Vic.... there is a heap of great companies to deal with around this area, i was sorting them all out for a year before i started my build. Sandblaster/powder coater (master blaster), fabricators (Henlor engineering), Machinists (Baker Engineering) Painters (Ellis panel works) plus bolt and bearing joints on waterdale road,,,, so many good suppliers and all good to deal with no grumpy buggers..... ;D

Hey andycafe........man, seems there is a few of us situated around the northern suburbs. I too regularly visit these areas as I'm based in Bundoora. Once everyone is one the road with their rides maybe we should organise a get-together ride......anyone interested? PM me.

Cheers,
Rone
