XS360 restoration for collector plates.

Coast to Coast
A literal barn find at the base of a ski resort. Dry stored in a relatively arid climate. Left home at 6am, drove all day with the dog, grabbed the bike for $400 CDN, drove straight home and was last vehicle on the last ferry home.

It languished on my bench for a while as I sourced some silly little bits. It was crashed and parked and during said event the back rim was severely flat spotted. Eventually, a set of 360 wheels came up on eBay.

Now I live in Canada so most of the time parts are impossible to find. If I find something on eBay, many won't ship to Canada, or the shipping is insane. Also, I love very near the US, but I live on an island with an expensive ferry. So popping down south to grab something isn't easy either.

So, after a couple late nights, two trips to a notary to get the registration sussed, I'm on the road. Taking pics today to submit my collector plate status. Super cheap insurance!

Thanks everyone. I sold my first build and it helped fund this and my next two bikes. I have zero intention of selling this. I know I'd regret it.

I've seen a lot of bikes in my day. This is the only xs360 I have seen in the flesh and I keep looking for them....
 
It's only got 13,300 miles on it. Matching case and frame VIN. But one cylinder seems a bit off on compression. I've done a few tanks with 10/30 in the case to clean it out and I'll do a hot compression test with 20/50 in the case and try some oil down the bores. I think a valve lap and some stock size rings with a light hone are in order. Hope...

I've magically located some oversized pistons and rings for a princely sum that I may keep tucked away for the future. Along with a spare gasket set in case they get rare.

This is a keeper.

You are right about them being rare - cant say I've seen one over here for a very long time.


Are you running the twin disc front with the same MC? How is that working out?
 
Same 14mm mc and so far it works. I have giant hands and have been grabbing brakes hard since I was 12. I may not notice much. If I were a rider with smaller hands or female I think the actuation might feel hard, modulation feels great though.

All the yamahas that I have that have the twin disc wheel and forks have the same Nissin 14 master cylinder.

Grabbing the brake makes the soft front end dive quite a bit. Even with 30w oil in there, I think a top spacer to stiffen the spring would help. I did read somewhere that progressive springs are available out there.

But the 360 fork tubes are 25mm shorter than 400 tubes. Simply swapping out the springs may help with the front end dive.
 
What is the other caliper off? Did you use the same hub (IE: did it have the holes drilled for a second disc)?

The caliper is shared with many bikes. I just got a right hand/left hand caliper setup, did a single line to the right caliper and a hoop over to the left caliper. The hub was already drilled for the second brake and the forks have caliper bosses on both of them.

It was either a factory option or a racing homologation setup. My SR500 has the same setup. Same caliper, same master cylinder, drilled hub, fork bosses....
