Anyone know what is involed in repairing a bad 2nd gear on a 1980 xs850 triple?It makes a real bad noise when you put it into gear.Thanks

The 750 had a second gear problem but the 850 was 'fixed'
you probably need new sliding gear and selector fork, probably 5th gear as well (it 'locks to shaft)
Not really major but it is a heavy donk to lift in and out of chassis.
I don't remember if you need to remove cylinders to split cases, Yamaha often put one bolt in cam chain tunnel :
