XT600e project - Spreading the load.

Hi Guys.
I'm progressing nicely with my 2003 XT600e project but I need your combined wisdom about batteries.
The standard bike uses a 12v 8Ah but I would like to run either :-
a) a smaller battery or
b) dual/multiple batteries hidden under the tank (non-XT)

So is it possible (safe) to run batteries in fulltime parallel connection ?

I don't know very much about power requirements but I think I need to keep up the cranking power for the electric start (later model with no kickstart),
I will be running,
LED lights for dip/main & rear
LED brake light
LED warning lights.
Horn
Electric start
Stock XT charging / reg / regulator

I'm also considering using a Motogadget M-unit (not blue) & momentary buttons.

Cheers all
Phil.

Your biggest concern is the cranking amps. You're looking at 135 CCA for that stock battery. A 4 cell Antigravity will get you 120 CCA. You might be able to go with that. The Antigravity ATZ-7 is a different configuration, but 150 CCA. Many other options out there, but just an idea to stew on from there.

Great info, I wasn't sure about cranking amps figure.
Cheers.

In my opinion, you need twice the amp hours for a street bike. I've been having great luck with Battery Tender (Deltran) batteries. I run BTL batteries in a CB550 and my R100/7. The BMW has the 480CCA/8AH battery and the CB550 has the 270CA/4.5AH battery. Takes a pretty robust battery to turn an Airhead over.
