XV920 "Short Bus"

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

The Hitachi carbs are difficult to mount and dismount, and are pretty lean stock, and are a pain in the ass to sync.

Make sure to note the length of the four 10mm bolts that hold the carb boots on and their position, as two of them are smaller than the others and need to go back the same way.

Plan on replacing the intake boots and remove the emissions stuff - you can just cap the plug at the front intake boot where it comes off.

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

Yes and keep in mind the main jets are one size different per carb for a reason.

Came out nice.

Now........did you clean up after yourself? Turn off the lights? Lock both doors? feed the cat and change the litter box?

Lights out, doors locked, changed the cat, fed the litter box

Thanks man I'm gonna have to take note if that. And yeah those carbs were a pain in the fuckin dick to take down from the motor. Planning to drop in some pinesol for a while, good idea? Or just stick with Gunk? Or maybe both?

I like the trees by the way, very nifty!

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

I have used original Pine-Sol in the past and it works all right; they have recently changed their formula, so I can't speak to its effectiveness; haven't done lemon juice myself. I used to use NAPA carb clean but you have to completely disassemble them and get all non-metal stuff out

We do ultrasonic cleaning at the shop and it pulls an amazing amount of stuff out.

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

I have a little ultrasound cleaner from HF and it works pretty good for 30 bucks, but its far too small for these big ol monstrosities we affectionately "carburetors", which might be french for "Satan's most evil joke".

I'll try Pine Sol soaking before I do the Carburetor Cleaner. Just for shits and gigs. Hell, I might even tear the little bits and bobs down and run em through the ultrasonic machine.

If you have one, put everything you can fit in there, in there. Beats using a guitar string to clean everything.

Guitar String? Bah! Paper Clips and toothpicks for the win!

It lives! That offset crb jetting in the stockers is due to the rear cylinder being shrouded by the body work and running hot. More fuel cools it down. Much less of an issue on this bike. I'd look for a 'front' cam to put in the rear head while you're at this.....

Now draw some damn cartoons!

(and nice job!)

HA Swagger bout time you checked in again here. Too much time pumping iron, not enough on motorcycles. LOL

Edit:

Nice avatar BTW

Hey...yeah I'm up to 3 hours 6 days a week until the contest. Still gotta peek in now and again.

Ya its not as good anymore..

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

It smells terrible. We stunk our house up with it a while ago.

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

Well, crap. I guess I'll have to live with it. I already got some of it. :(

Well just use it for your floors and use something else on the carbs. I used it and it did squat so I ended up using something else.

Re: XV920 "Short Bus"

The NAPA stuff is ~$25 and works great - but you have to totally disassemble the carbs. We charge $75 for ultrasonic cleaning and reassembly for 2-cyl carbs - not sure how that compares to your local rates.
