Yamaha DT250 Stray Mutt hard tail hellride.

irk miller

You've been mostly-dead all day.
DTT BOTM WINNER
I took ownership of a DT250 engine that most definitely ran through a few hands like a village girl. With this engine in mind, I went to Barber on a mission to find a frame. Well, I came back with a DT1 frame and a Triumph bolt on hard tail. Add RD wheels, XS forks and a CB650 triple, this is what I have,

Wow.......that little looks nice........as always, quick work.

I just picked up a xl 250 I think, and want to do something like this......

Hey, irk miller!

Has this project advanced at all? May I make a request for a straight from the side picture of this one? You have utterly NAILED the proportions (rake, etc, etc...) and I would love to try and use that as a target for getting my Uglyness in order. Seriously, this is a really cool project.
Actually, the second picture should do okay.

It's in the barn in the same state as the last pic. I have a line of two more bikes ahead of it.

Okay! You are definitely on a Roll with it! Can't wait to see where this ends up. Thank you for the response. I hope to mimic the proportions you've laid out- GREAT EYE!

I'm guessing that the front wheel is a 19" and the rear an 18" ? GEEZ, I love that bike.

Thanks. That's an RD350 front wheel, so 18". I will likely swap to an XS front wheel, which is 19".

Pipe science is over-rated IMHO. Not that correct piping doesn't yield performance, but that the science doesn't always lead to the best solution. Back in the '70s I had a 125 Penton ISDT that we wanted to flat track. Bought a commercial low pipe that was suppised to be awesome, and a friend gave me one he had hanging around. Then I took the stock high pipe, made one cut, rotated to low pipe and a friend welded that up. Everyone said it would never work. Had it dyno'd and the crappy reweld pipe was best by far (jetting adjusted for each pipe). I had done it just to have a spare pipe, not for performance. It was much sharper power band, but for short tracks was great. So, don't worry too much about the pipe.

I also have a Yamaha DLS drum brake front wheel of unknown origin that might look different from the disc.
Let me know if you want me to send you the pipe and we can work out the details. I will probably be heading to GA sometime this next fall if you don't need it right away otherwise, for the cost of shipping it is yours.
The DT has the same bore and stroke as the Suzuki TS250 and T500 and Honda CR250, so any pipe off of those could be made to work. Circle F sells a Flat Track pipe for them, too.

This bike won't see any love until at least the summer, and most likely after Mid O. I was planning on shopping the Mid O swap for parts on this build.

Man.......I need to get a hardtail frame. I've got a CB350 twin motor that needs a home.
