Yamaha TW200.. the swamp donkey

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or, so I've read.

My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I love to sink her with my pink torpedo.
Big bottom
Big bottom
Talk about bum cakes
My gal's got 'em.

Big bottom
Drive me out of my mind.
How can I leave this behind?

I saw her on Monday, twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean.
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
You know what I mean.

Got a little shop time in today. I decided to use it to do some work on the tank. PREVIOUS OWNER had dug some bondo trenches out of the tank and left them there. They bugged me. So my next step was obviously to sand all the bondo out of the tank and pull the dents, right?

Nah, son. But if I’m going back with bondo at least I’ll do some prep?

Nah. Right over that shit.

More stickers to come.

Today was seat cover day. I also forgot to add that I painted the bash plate the other day. It got high heat wrinkle on the outside and the high heat enamel from the engine inside. I didn’t have much left in the can of wrinkle and I didn’t want to run out.

Recovering the seat wasn’t bad. I prefer these spikes to having to staple them on.

And went to town. Took maybe 20 minutes to get the new cover on.

Then I put the seat back on. Looks pretty good I think.

Next is removing and repainting the swingarm. Same color, This is just rust prevention. The donkey lives a few hundred yards from the Gulf of Mexico on one side and 100 yards from Mobile Bay on the other. I imagine she’ll get a refresh every year to stay ahead of the rust.

Well they can’t all be good days. Yesterday I decided to work on the swingarm. I went to three stores in town looking for a non metallic silver: Walmart, hardware store and auto parts store. Those are all of my options without leaving the island. I thought I had found one that at least had minimal metallic look.

I removed the swingarm and got to cleaning it.

I prepped it and started spraying. Almost immediately I knew that I had screwed up. But I laid it on nice and thick, figuring it would make a good base coat. Here it is. It’s horrible.

So I’m going to give my spray painted chrome swingarm 48 hours to cure, then prep it and respray it with some straight up not metallic silver/grey I left the island to get this morning.

Can't hurt to have the extra coat on there. would splurging on powder coat be worth it for the rust prevention?

I don't know your area too well, but isn't that the same island where O'Reilly's and Napa is? They both should have Duplicolor automotive paint with the look you want. I'd be surprised if they didn't. You said auto parts store, so if they don't, then you have some craptastic auto parts stores on your island.

My local O'Riellys has way reduced what they stock for spray bombs last time I was in there, Not sure why by enviro folks may have something to do with it.

Not mine. It's half an aisle full of paint and the other half full of body work stuff. My O-Reilly's also has a lot of stuff in the back but you have to ask for it. Tank liners are in the back. Some O Reilly's in the US even sell proper automotive paints.

That was how mine was but they cut the isle in half and now its 1/4 paint and 1/4 body. not sure why. I could always go there and get duplicolor right off the shelf for half the cost of here, they had the metalics, the basics, the colour match etc. now it's sad. When I asked why they told me to go on line 2 days before and order it shipped to the store, but I don't always know I need it until I need it LOL. Like I wanted the Duplicolor White enamel because I took a heater off the wall and it was almond and all out stuff is white. went to get it and it was not there, I came back over to Canada and had to pay 16 bucks for it when it was like 5.99 USD $8CAD in O'Reilly in Maine. Pissed me off.

We do have an o’reilly’s and a Napa on the island. I went to our Napa but it is indeed craptastic. The O’Rielly’s is in Orange Beach clear on the other end of the island. I haven’t been in there yet because it’s new but my buddy told me it’s not a full sized store. I ended up grabbing some at Lowe’s that’s pretty close. A few more miles would have put me within spitting distance of four real auto parts stores, but I had to go to Lowe’s anyway and they had what I was looking for.

And yeah, powder coat is probably the way to go. I got a guy locally, but I’m going to see how this budget repaint stuff holds up this year. If it’s starting to rust again by next winter I’ll end up getting stuff powdered.

If we're being honest, powder isn't necessarily any stronger than a good paint job with a properly primed and prepared surface.

I’ve never had anything powdered before. It’s always been an option in the back of my mind, but my paint seems to hold up pretty well. The one thing I’ve learned over time is that grill paint is no substitute for engine paint. It holds up for a season or two and then starts to look like dookie. Other than that it’s really all in the prep.

I can't believe that you not only stole my thread, but then you painted the swing arm fake chrome. Deplorable. This bike is stupid now and i hate you.

On an unrelated note, I'm super glad your giving the donk the love it deserves, and i also love you.

Loser.
