Yes, another CB360 Project - BRGT

The motor looks great. :D

Thanks Matthias. Now if I could just get the points set I'd be happy. Can't wait for the Pamco CB360 kit!! ::)

I should have more photos of progress soon. . .

Some progress today. I got my seals and dust covers for the front shocks. Pulled them apart and rebuilt them. Also got the left shock polished up. In the past I would always take my bikes into the shop for oil seal replacement. Man, I wish I'd tried it myself back then. It's really not that hard to do.

Getting the oil seal in took a littler persuasion, but a PVC pipe works well. Just had to whack it a few times.

After all was installed, time for 140ml of new transmission fluid. The old junk oil that came out of the fork was light gray with some black muck. Not sure how old it was, but it smelled nasty.

And here they are all rebuilt, polished up and ready to go.

Next up was cleaning and polishing the rear brake assembly. It was kinda cruddy to start with.

After a trip through the wire wheel it's starting to look much better already.

And the final product after 400/600 sandpaper, Black - Gray - White & Jeweler's Rouge polishing compound. 8)

Still had some time left, so I decided to tackle some of the wiring. I wanted to strip away as much of the equipment that I wasn't going to use, and just get down to the basic wiring harness.

My plan is to use this in conjunction with a wiring diagram. I might start from scratch, or just refurbish what I have here.

Here's what I removed from the wiring harness.

I really like tearing things apart and bringing them back to life. Not sure how others do their wiring, but I like do it this way so I can see what I'm working with.

More to come. . .

Mike

Ooo pretty. That final image is exactly why I plan to build my harness from scratch. I don't want to combine new wire with old grimey wire - seems kind of half-ass which I try to avoid.

After spending 30 minutes separating filthy wires I think I see where you're coming from Matt. Since I'm foregoing the starter motor, I need to figure out what I can eliminate in the wiring harness.

This will be a good project on the kitchen table on a cold snowy day(s).

Great build so far! Do you have a pic of the wire wheel you used for the first step of polishing?

Thanks Easy. Here's a link to the polisher I'm using from HF:

The wire wheel I'm using is this one:

I have this polisher mounted on a board so I can move it into different positions. Right now it's 90 degrees to me, with the wheel locking nut sticking out toward me, over the edge of the bench. This gives me plenty of room to work on parts.

I love BRG. Did an xs400 in that color a few years ago, so subscribed.

gah it's been a cold snowy day here for the past week and a half, its teens-single digits every day now. =[ my motor still sitting in the car. too cold to break it down. keep us posted on your wiring build - what else are you eliminating/what are you keeping?

I really dig Nate's 360 bike with the rear integrated LED brake/turn signals. Honestly, in a college town, you have to use both turn and hand signals or people will run you over. So, here's my dream setup:
  • Kick Start, no electric. CrazyPJ plug for starter motor hole.
  • Pamco electronic ignition. (When Pete gets them in production).
  • Kohler integrated Regulator/Rectifier (already purchased)
  • Integrated LED brake/turn and headligh/turn signals
  • Heat seeking missles to blow up cagers on their phones coming at me.
Well, maybe not the last one. ;D

Aweomse Build. I think i'm going to setup a wire wheel based on yours.

Would you provide a link to the Kohler Integrated Regulator/Rectifier?

Definitely gonna keep an eye on this.

Your paint scheme is close to what I have been toying with. Thinking about a dark forest green with a nice full grain brown leather seat.

Damn this is looking good. Gotta respect anyone willing to put the elbow grease into a project. Makes or breaks it, in my opinion. Gotta keep my eye on this one, try to learn a thing or two.

Wow lots of work put in so far! All looks great!

Thanks guys for all the support. Really encouraging. Hope I can produce something worthwhile.

I've been working on polishing while waiting for my gas tank to come back from my local welder. It had a 1/4" and small pin hole in it. Just got a package from Eastwood - POR-15 to clean, prep and seal the tank.

I don't want to have to reinstall the spokes if I can help it. I guess I'm either too lazy or too busy.

I picked up this braided hose out of the trash at work. Seems like it would make a cool breather hose.

Just have to work out the connections and a filter on the end. Maybe a K&N to match the pods I plan on using.

I hope to move things along this weekend.

Not a lot of excitement today. Still cleaning parts, and since it's turning cold, cutting and splitting firewood.

Cutting off the lock tab and pin.

Not perfect, but paint should cover it up enough.

Patiently waiting on someone to eyeball my wiring diagram and offer suggestions or rip it to shreds. . .

Still cleaning up wheels and waiting on parts. Tank had 2 holes in it. Once it shows up I'll POR-15 and paint it British Racing Green. That will be cool. Not sure if I want to do a little pearl or metal flake in it. I'd like the classic color, but maybe a little pizazz in it. We'll see.

Work is coming in fits and starts. Cold weather in Kansas is a good time to head for the garage and make progress.

Got some goodies in the mail today. ;D

Starting to work on the seat pan.

I will definitely being making my own seat with fiberglass.

The beat goes on. . .

At first glance your wiring diagram looks pretty good, except you are missing the brake light switch for the front brake. Since your braking should be done mostly with your front brake this is pretty important.
