YZF750/1000R - The Fly 5

This bike was made for New Mexico back roads. It doesn't like to ride in town.

So this happened:

Sonreir's thread: https://www.dotheton.com/index.php?threads/1994-yamaha-yzf750r-vandal.77127/

He had it running and under the road grime it's starting to clean up pretty well for a 26 year old bike. It will take a couple of weeks before I can try to get it running. I've only pulled off the bodywork and begun the assesment and cleanup. It might be my best track bike candidate so I don't have to resort to the survivor i put back on the road. Maybe I'll even pass that one on and just keep this one. Time will tell. :)

Well, I got it running relatively easily today. A little ether helped. It pissed fuel everywhere so some carb work is in order. I have the new parts already for new float needles and bowl gaskets, etc.. It appears as though some fuel went down the intakes so an oil change will be in order too. The engine didn't make any weird noises so far so overall a good sign.

New fuel hose, bowl gaskets, bowl breather hoses, overflow hoses, needles and seats, intake rubber boots, lots of wrestling with hard to reach 3mm allen screws and I'm ready to test with fuel again.

Looks like no more leaks and it's running again after my ham handed rebuild so that makes me happy.

The brakes are nasty and need a complete going through. I've got new HEL braided steel lines and new front rotors inbound next. I have a new rear rotor already. I also have a set of R1 blue spot front calipers which are a nicer and lighter upgrade so I'm going to do the front fork mod to adapt them to this bike. I've seen a neat Brembo caliper swap out there that I might track down for the rear. I'll need to get a chain and sprocket set ordered as well, this set has seen better days.

Ordered the chain and sprocket set. I found a guy in the UK who will make up some rear caliper brackets so I should have one by spring. I'll pickup one of the ubiquitous 32mm brembo (84mm center) rear calipers when the hanger gets here. I have new levers coming too. I've already been digging through my spares piles to bring the best of the bits to this bike. Good thing I have almost enough of these bikes as spares, right honey?

Just a few pics of the brakes before I go through them.
