I gave my son his first welding lesson yesterday while installing my seat mount/stiffening brackets. I think he'll be ready to strike an arc by his 4th birthday.

Tiny update: I haven't had a chance to mess with the carbs any further but I did get my seat-mount brackets cut out. They are made of 3/16" mild steel and once I holes to through-bolt to the seat base, I can weld them onto the frame using 7018 rod (I'd just MIG them but my machine isn't here)...

I just got the carbs back together and on the bike after cleaning them and replacing some hardened rubber parts. I managed to get it running with a shot of starting fluid but it would only run on full choke and crazy-high idle (sorry, currently no tach but sounds like 3k+). I messed around with...

I've had a couple of days to work on the bike and put the carbs all back together. Tracking down the o-rings for the vents and connector tubes was a pain but I think I'm ready to get this thing going. Once I'm confident that it'll run, I'll start cutting out my seat base from 3/4" plastic board...

I may be down for that.

How do you ride a motorcycle with that stick wedged in your ass? And how did you ever find room for both the stick and your head? :D

Thanks, Gary! I got it running yesterday, huge step forward. It didn't like to idle without the choke and it dies out at 1/4 throttle so I've got to do a real carb re-build this time. It's a good opportunity to jet up a size for the 4-1 anyway though I'm a little worried that my intake setup...

Well, the seat idea is scrapped for now. I tore the vinyl cover and I really didn't want to spend any money on it since it's cobbled together from parts I had laying around.
