    1970 Triumph Tiger 650

Got the brake caliper brackets and the brake stay bracket welded on today. Bolted everything up and with brake pads in and both sides rotate freely. Glad that is all done because now I can move forward with a good bit of assembly. Nice bit of TIG welding should do it: Almost looks factory...

    Paint vs powdercoat....again

Now we are running into the issue that has given powder coating motorcycle parts a bad name. There is a huge difference between commercial powder coating and the custom show powder coating process. The commercial production outfits don't have to usually put out a finish that needs to last 10...

    Paint vs powdercoat....again

I would talk with the coater before hand and discuss the issues. If he's a garage powder coater who's doing it really cheap you may find that corners are cut in the process. There are special fillers for powder coating and while JB Weld will do (I use it), your coater may have something else he...

    1970 Triumph Tiger 650

Details, details, it's all in the details. My new grip was too short for the existing throttle tube, so I had to machine 3/8" off the tube. Also the tube being raw aluminum and the grip being transparent threw the color shade off from the other side so I had to powder coat it black to match...

Made in USA? How many countries are US now?

37.4 % of Harley Davidson motorcycles are sold outside of the USA. Most of Harley Davidsons profit is from merchandising of products manufactured outside the USA. The Toyota Tundra is made in San Antonio, Tx. The Chevy Silverado is made in Mexico, the Ford F150 is now being made in Mexico. None...

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

Re: "Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week! They were made to keep in the trunk of your car so when the car broke down, you could still get home or go for help or gas or whatever. Kinda cool, don't know about $3k worth of cool though.

    1970 Triumph Tiger 650

Copper crush washers on the rockers shafts, push the cooler over the shafts, more copper washers and then the dome nuts. Mounts the same as the factory tube. Keep in mind it is a gimmick cosmetic accessory. There isn't much oil pressure or flow to the rockers and if it does any cooling it is...

    1970 Triumph Tiger 650

Unlike the factory feed pipe that splits and then feeds oil to both rocker shaft ends, the Webco unit is fed oil into the center of the rear of the unit and then directed to each end. here is the back of one made for a unit Triumph motor, notice the cutaway back to clear the fins on the rocker...

    1970 Triumph Tiger 650

Had this finned rocker box oil cooler in the box of parts and went to fit it to the rockers only to find it is for a pre unit 650 that doesn't have fins on the rocker box. Fins got in the way of it fitting up against the box. I had to chuck it up in the mill and machine the back side to fit the...

How much heat can valve stem seals handle?

VHT Engine Enamels resist heat up to 550°F (288C). The directions say it is an air dry paint, but can be oven cured at 200°F (93C) for 20 minutes. It will cure on it's own from the engine heat during use. Are you using something different?

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

Re: "Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week! your pockets don't need to be deep to do what you plan. If you wanted to make it really workable it would require much deeper pockets. I just had a chuckle, my daughter was telling me her boyfriend is...

"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

It's been known for some sellers to drain the pudding and replace it with fresh oil before selling. >:(

That would be really wishful thinking. I guarantee if it's still there then you won't want it, because no one else did either. :o
