Motorcycle Powered Kart: Father Daughter Project

While I'm still ratting about on the air filter scenario, (and thanks again for the all the kind words and info on that one!) I started looking into the exhaust system. This is what it came with: The muffler was welded straight onto the manifold by a previous owner. So I'm not sure if its...

Motorcycle Powered Kart: Father Daughter Project

Hah! First time I've heard the name Lifan. Did a bit of googling and yup, found the exact ATV. Well I guess I kinda lucked out then, I really wasn't expecting much from this motor, based on its origin. High level, this quad has not been loved by any means. It stood rusting outdoors, yet the...

Just for kicks, I popped the filter body onto the carburetor too see what it looks like.

Great resource! Thanks! :-) Yeah that's what Maritime suggested as well. This probably would have been the simplest way to get this job done. Something like this? I measured up this filter that I got yesterday, and for every 11.5mm (fin to fin), when flattened out comes to 32.2mm of filter...

Gentlemen, thanks for all the thoughts, brainstorming, ideas and flat out knowledge in your responses. Some things like water getting in didn't even cross my mind. Will address this too. Hugely appreciated! Some progress: The first green highlight will be where we put some kind of screen...

Nice little car! What 911's have you had?? The wheel base mocked up in the earlier pics were in fact a scaled down version of the X-Bow (1800x1400). The pics DID make them look a little long wheelbase wise, but thats photos for ya! Always hard to gauge. Looks better in the flesh. BUT a good...

Motorcycle Powered Kart: Father Daughter Project

Yes! An excellent example of a well handling car. Ive driven the Caman R, and it was a lot of fun. Beautifully balanced car. So took your idea, and cross referenced it against the X-Bow, and the Cooper S, which is also a great handling little car. Scaled the wheels, (granted they could have...

Rattle can spraying. Big fun. Primer on a couple of motor mount brackets. While looking for ideas on pintrest for frame/chassis ideas, I stumbled on this great idea: This guy used pvc tubing to work out his framework. I figured this was a great way to start exploring how we were going to...

Yes tig. Good you bring this up. Not the best practice by any means! In my eagerness, I happened to see the galvanized piping in my local hardware store down the road. Correct diameter. Pop said he didn't mind using it, as long as I ground the edges where we will need welds. However, once I...

Yeah I think they'll be ok. Ill definitely be putting some kind of "governor" in place if need be once I see how it performs. I need to limit the speed she can do. Most likely just some kind of a stopper on the Accelerator pedal, that I can adjust, not allowing the throttle to open up fully...

Time for an UPDATE! Split the front ATV frame in half. Was a lot more tricky than I anticipated. Not much room in there. Got in with a cutting disc, and got about 1/3rd cut. Then with a hacksaw. Finally ended up using a hacksaw blade only for the last couple of brackets. Split in half...

Hi there, welcome to the forums. Thanks for the interest and the ideas. Yes I agree, wired wheels would look great. They always do. I have to say though, I really love these high profile skinny cast wheels. They certainly give the motorcycle a definitive late 70's look. Going wire would give...

Thanks again for all the supportive comments guys. My daughter was feeling a little despondent, as she told all her friends at school what we were doing and they all pretty much called her a liar. I took her through this build thread this morning before school, and well it pretty much made...
