Been getting a little done here and there but haven't had time to update.
I needed to change the case of the speedometer because it had some damage
But I had to cut a new notch for the trip reset knob
I cut some 1/8" plate for a possible bracket for the speedo
I made a little bracket to...
I finally got a few minutes to hook the old xs650 speedo up to the 750 to check it out.
I also downloaded a GPS speedometer app on my phone so I could compare and see if it was going to work. That's what the tape on the triple tree was for. The speedo was dead on with the gps, although I...
I do have an old speedo from my yamaha sx650 that I might hook up and see if it works for this. It won't have any of the indicator lights on it, but I'm not sure I care enough to spend more money on it....especially if I end up picking up a different tank. I don't like not having a tach, but...
I've been piddling with the bike on and off with not much to show.
I finally got out and wired in the headlight. I used bullet connectors and shrink tube to get that done.
Next I needed to get the front blinkers installed but I needed a hole in the headlight ears because I just didn't feel...
I finally got the springs back in the carbs and took it for a ride. It is definitely smoother in the midrange now that the slides aren't flying to the top with no springs in there...*shocker*
The idle still hangs quite a bit, so I think upping the pilots may still be in order.
I got to looking...
Ok, tonight I realized I am either a total idiot or just an old senile sob....I was in the barn getting the seat hoop section and front seat mount bracket hit with some self etching primer so I could get some black on the bare metal before I go any further.
I looked over at the work table and...
Yeah, I wanted to make sure and check at 3.5 turns out knowing that was the max limit for effect on mixture.
I'm thinking the mains are good right now at 125's, once I get above 5000rpm at WOT it pulls like a train.
Midrange still seems sketchy but I've already shimmed the needles about .058"...
After wiring up the reg I adjusted the air mix screws because the idle was hanging so badly the last time I had it out. I opened them up to 3 turns out and it was a bit better, so I took them to the full 3.5turns out and it was def the best it has been. The idle smoothed out and the bike...
It's not been a good weekend for vehicles at my house...Sat morning the prius was dead and the 12v battery wouldn't take a charge, this morning the F150 wouldn't start...would crank but no fire, wife's old car...PT cruiser totally dead not even a dome light. Sheesh...
Once I at least got the...
Yeah, I was thinking that most of the 2 hole rear mount tanks would probably at least be close....
unclerob, I'd been meaning to stop back in to see how yours finished up. I think it looks great. I'm not a huge fan of that style of bike itself, but you took a 30+ year old machine and made a...
I don't think metal work on the tank is gonna happen for me here...I'm either gonna leave it as is or find another one. I'm not sure I care enough to do either one truthfully.
Yeah, I completely see what you mean and I totally hate the shape of this tank and I can't picture in my mind any way to fix that with the seat. I'm trying to stay away from a complete crotch rocket look with this tank which is nearly impossible IMO. I'd really like to find another tank for...
After pacing my brother to his first ever marathon finish I had some time to work on the bike yesterday lol
I was able to get the clutch cable installed pretty easily once I found the adjuster screw that's supposed to be in the perch. I thought I was losing my mind for a second there...I...
Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a new FH012AA equivalent made who knows where for $14.95 shipped(from USA and not on a slow boat from china). I'm not sure how these can be sold that cheaply but I suppose at that price it's worth a shot.
2nd thing today is that I'm a total...
It looks like I have several choices for replacements, GSresources has a huge list of the compatible regulators for this bike.
I have found several used SH232-12 units for around $20...of course they are as old or older than the one that failed on this bike...
I found an SH541-12 equivalent...
I did notice the wires going to the regulator were warm last time I had it running.
Here's the results.
First I checked the regulator...
I didn't get ANY continuity from ANY tabs at all....none zilch nada. Ok, new reg needed.
Next I checked continuity on the generator coils. All checked...
