A guy from Boise is sending me a handful of floats from a spare set of XS1100 carbs he had. I'll have to test them all before installing to make sure they don't also have holes. Assuming submersion in gas (or any fluid for that matter) for a night or two should do the trick?
While installing my new carb kits I discovered I had gas in two of my floats. Yes, the two carbs that were consistently running rich. It must have taken them a while to start filling up because I checked float level early on in the process and they were all good. Time to track down some floats...
Haha I'm looking for something smaller now. Like a <250cc 2-stroke for a 500 mile - $500 challenge I'm doing with a big group of local riders.

Hard to believe by I FINALLY got this thing out of town for a 30 mile loop on some twisty country toads. Ran well at 60mph+, and handled like a dream on the twisty's. Can't believe it took me this long to get it out there. I'll keep everyone posted on jetting round 2, and one of these days I'll...
Just putting this here so that I can find it again. Looks like this guy on eBay is parting out the rack of carbs I need...

I've wasted this much time... what's a couple more hours ;) haha
I'll do some digging on those OEM parts so I at least have them tracked down as a backup plan.
Yeah, I hear ya guys. I'll give them a shot and see what happens. It was only $50 for all 4 kits. A rack of 1100 carbs on eBay are $300. If these fail and I have to piece it together with genuine parts I can do that. It's the emulsion tube/needle jet that will be the hardest to come by it sounds...
To sum it up... The carbs I have are from a 1979 XS750, not an 850. They were on the bike when I got it. After LOTS of reading on the Yamaha triples forum, I discovered that most who swap the Mikuni carbs from the 750 onto the 850 replace the guts with a set from a XS1100 which runs the exact...
Been riding it too and from work everyday, trying to adjust the air screws for around town and I just can't quite get it right. Once the engine is warm it runs pretty well, but my drive to work is too short for it to really even get warm. I haven't had a chance to get our for a real ride yet...
The torque is somethin else. The same friend has a Tesla Model S he let me drive... Same story with just a bit more power ;) It's just bizarre to twist (or step on) the throttle, have immediate power and not hear a damn thing. Our brains have been engrained for so long with the notion that sound...
So awesome. I rode a buddies Zero bike around a bit last year. Really enjoyable. The silence while sitting, and the lack of noise, except for the wind while riding are super hard to get use to. The only thing I had a hard time with was lack of shifting... but the constant power made up for it :D
As if this wasn't confusing enough...
Yesterday was the first day I rode it with the needles bumped up another notch. It ran pretty well on the way to work with a little popping on the right still. So I pulled the air screws out a half turn before heading home and it ran REALLY well. Maybe one...
Yeah... I hear what you're saying. Definitely more challenging with 3 carbs and 2 inlets. I'd have to try to burn off enough gas until the hoses are empty and check. Interesting point. Not against checking it out.
Super common in old carbs with old parts. My float needles are band new and...
Turning off the rap? Not sure what that means.
The fuel would drain out of the plugs inconsistently because the first drain plug that I pull will dump the gas in that float bowl along with everything in the fuel line on that side. Then the next one will only dump what was in the float bowl...
