Time to rebuild the bol d'or

So. I pulled the V&H system apart to have it ceramic coated in black. Which has introduced another option I wasn't really considering until now. I've always thought the muffler was oddly proportioned, and it seems to me that it would be fairly easy to shorten the end can by as much as 100mm...

Reducing the gloss on 2 part 2k urethane clearcoat

I've just done this on my cb900. You get a 'matting base' you add to your 2K clear to alter the gloss level. I went with a 1:1 mix because I wanted a satin finish and it worked well. You would need to start with a low matting amount to knock the edge off your gloss, but would need to test it...

Going from 16" to 18" rear Comstar wheel?

I think the drum brake will be your sticking point I'm afraid. All the 900s had 18" rears in various styles, as do the 1100Rs. My VF750 also has one, but is the boomerang style. The 1100Fs have 17" rears. All are disc brake though. cheers ian

Time to rebuild the bol d'or

Well, that took a while ::) Mainly due to me stuffing up the left tank decal. They're a bugger to get around those front curves smoothly :o Once a replacement arrived from Canada I put it on, then masked around the rest of the stripe decals and shot them with a clear gloss to make the pop a...

I think you nailed it. I particularly like the period-correct RSC sticker rather than the later HRC. How's that for anarak ;) cheers ian

Time to rebuild the bol d'or

Easy. There's a crowd on ebay selling replicas ;) Fortunately they had one that matched the original. Just had to stamp the frame number in the space. They're not an official VIN tag as such, and any checks that are done use the frame number stamped in the head-stem, so there's no issue with...

Time to rebuild the bol d'or

Not everything went according to plan however. Despite taping up and protecting all the threads and bearing surfaces, the sand blasting got into the lower steering bearing race. I was hoping to be able to re-use it. The Bearings are fairly new, and the outer race is a PITA to remove. Turns out I...
