    Yet Another 400F build

Time to start putting things back together. ...and then back on the lift. Also took delivery of the latest toy for the shed: May get to paint the tank on the week-end :D If I'd been a bit more organised, I would have put my DSS order in already and have the few parts I'm missing ready...

    Yet Another 400F build

Sure thing: NH-104M-U Pleiadis silver metallic I ended up going to a PPG paint shop, as they were the only ones that could read the code. I did get one of the VF frames powdercoated with what looked like on the sample a perfect match, but when it was done it was a little off. The powdercoaters...

    Yet Another 400F build

The Honda frame paint (at least on the 2 VFs I have) is Pleiades Silver, which is also the colour of my first Bol D'Or restoration I did. I had enough left to paint the frame swing arm and a few brackets. So I did. The I put a coat of clear urethane over it to keep it clean, and make it shiny...

    Yet Another 400F build

Well, I got all the fiddly bits sorted, and its time to pull her apart for paint. It's funny isn't it, but you can look at a build on a lift day after day, but as soon as you put them on the ground they look like a motorbike-even half-way through a strip-down: and there we are ready for...

Down under, an idiot and a 400F

Looking good fella. Let me know if you want a parts PDF. Bolt info is all in there. Yeah, grab a hex head socket, you won't regret it. cheers ian

    Yet Another 400F build

Wow. Has it been THAT long! Just finished another project that took me away from this little pet, and now my son is at me to finish this thing before he's too old to ride it ::) Anyway, back on the job now, and tackling the wiring. Does this look familiar to anyone? Also pulling apart my...

Remove Neutral Only Start on DOHC 750

Yeah, I'd be looking at that switch on the clutch perch. If you jump the two wires, you should have power to the starter. If that works, your switch is toast. If it doesn't work, there's a problem with the wiring. cheers ian

Down under, an idiot and a 400F

cool ;-) I do, but I thought you may already have those. The engine bolt hole is 12mm (for the 10mm bolt), and the two frame bolt holes are 10mm, but have an M8 captive nut behind them. Not sure if you're going to thread your new brackets or just nut and bolt them? Have you heard from your...

Does this help? I've measured the offset from the back of the engine side, to the front of the frame side. Your bracket may be thicker? The bit at the rear is part of the battery mounting, so not sure if you'll need that?? cheers ian

    cb500/550 swap?

Thanks for the info guys. Unfortunately the ebay gods were against me this time, and the bike was pulled. No point jumping on the motor with nothing to put it in. I'm sure this info will come in handy in the future. cheers ian

    cb500/550 swap?

Hi guys. Was wondering if the 550/4 can be bolted straight in to a 500/4 frame? cheers ian

    VF750FD project

Nah. The Vf1000R is a 'survivor'. I'll clean it up one day, but there's nothing much wrong with it. Not sure where you're looking, but the only bikes I have are the two VFs, a CB1100F and a 900F, with the 400F still languishing on the lift :-(

    VF750FD project

Just brute force ;-) Because they're so brittle, I just smashed it to bits. Yeah. I discovered that when I tried to use some spare pistons to rebuild the original. They didn't fit. Ended up getting a new pair and seals, which I should have done in the first place. Oh well.

    VF750FD project

Just to let you know the reason why work on my CB400F project has stalled... I picked up an '84 VF750F that was close, and the right price. The PO says it ran, but had a low speed misfire. I can work with that I reckon. She's a little rough around the edges, but that's what a project is...
