Tried my hand at upholstery for the first time. Pretty happy with how it turned out. I need to re-stick a spot in the angle of the cushion where it pulled up, but overall I like it. I used the method here, more or less: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=72122.0 I highly...

    Mikuni VM34 & 11th Hour Industries KZ400 intake

Re: Mikuni VM34 & 11th Hour Industries intake Got a pic of it with the pod filter. I bought this short one because a longer one sticks out too far to the side. You can keep it or throw it away, it's included either way.

    Mikuni VM34 & 11th Hour Industries KZ400 intake

I bought this carb and intake for my KZ400 project, but I decided I want to run dual VM30's instead. This is for the '77 and newer KZ400 with a center frame member. I mounted it but never fired it up. Also have (but not pictured) a shorty pod filter. Asking $200 shipped in the continental...

Getting closer....I originally threw on a set of drag bars but decided they just didn't look right. Ended up with a set of Cafe bars from Dime City. They look better, IMO, but still don't force you into leaning forward so much. My old man back can't handle that. In fact, they come back a...

Just a quick update...no new pics but I've made some progress. I didn't get much done the last couple months because it's too damn cold in the garage, but now that it's warming up a little I got the wiring (mostly) done. Added a mini tach and speedo from Dime City and got them mounted & wired...

Ok, never mind. I figured it out. B for Battery and L for Lights. I'm a little slow sometimes. ;D

    Turn signal relay question

I'm replacing the original turn signal relay on my KZ400 with one that's LED compatible. There are two wires, one orange wire that runs to the turn signal switch, and one brown that connects to the regulator. I'm not sure which wire to connect to which terminal - my new relay has one post...

That looks like the one I bought first, thinking they were all the same. The bolt patterns don't match up, though. Anyone want to buy a post-78 petcock? :D

I found the petcock here: https://z1parts.net/petcock-fuel-valve-kz400/ No idea if it's truly the correct one since I originally had some sort of weird universal petcock without a reserve setting. But it bolted up to the tank just fine. Haven't filled it with gas yet, though.

Oh, and my wife got me a set of mini gauges from Dime City for Christmas. They're going to look much better than the monster gauges that are on there now. Anyone know if the speedo can be opened up and the mileage advanced to match what I currently have?

Winter finally got here so work has slowed down. This week has been warmer though so I got a little work done. Almost have the seat pan ready for paint. I've block sanded it with a primer guide coat and found just a couple minor low spots. I also drilled it for mounting screws and reinforced...

Yeah, I'm probably going to need rear sets anyway. I'm a fairly tall guy and I'm still pretty scrunched up even with drag bars.

Getting closer on the seat. I've found the hard way that creating something perfectly round is pretty hard. I keep finding low and high spots that need filler or sanding. I'm pretty close, though. I welded some tabs to the frame that the seat will attach to, but forgot to get pics. Decided...

Looks good, that tail goes well with the shape of the tank.

I also built a battery / electronics tray. It hangs down about 1.25 inches below the frame, so combined with the hollow area directly under the seat I have a little over 3 inches of depth, which should be enough to fit a lipo battery. Gave it a quick coat of primer to keep it from rusting over...
