CB400T cafe: Let's cut this thing into pieces

Finally getting started on this. God, I'm so sorry for the few of you that have seen my "idea" posts. I have a garage now so I can actually do this! Started taking my 1978 CB400T down to the frame today. Got all the small parts off now I need to start on the exhaust, engine and air box stuff...

"Doing it Right" or "How to Build a Functional Café Racer"

The goal would be a happy medium of both. I'm running stock right now and there's not a lot of low-end power but there's an okay amount of high end. I've taken it to a straight and my top speed before it really could not give me any more was 102. And God was that terrifying. I thought it was...

    CB400 Project

So I've decided (now that I've gotten paid) that the first thing I'm going to do is replace the lighting and then the exhaust. I'm having trouble figuring out what I want to do with the exhaust, and part of that is incomplete knowledge. The 400T has the prechamber/transformer/converter thing...

    CB400 Project

I think the first thing I'll do is replace the exhaust with something smaller. And louder. That will take a lot of the weight off. Thanks for pointing that out about the front fender, I didn't realize that. I will probably cut both of them shorter. The seat is something I'm a little hesitant...

    CB400 Project

Hello all! I'm finally starting my CB400 project. Bought the bike a couple months ago and got it running well and now I want to work on cosmetic things and maybe a few performance things later down the line. First thing I want to do is lighten the whole thing up. It is completely stock aside...

Engine dle speed too slow. Why?

An update: I found that the second cylinder wasn't firing consistently and ask a mechanic friend of mine what to do. He told me to clean the carbs again and to replace the spark plugs, boots and wires. So I took the carbs off Friday and completely disassembled them and let the pieces sit in carb...

    Exhaust Leak Fix

Thanks guys. I'll just JB weld it for now. I plan to invest in a Mac 2 to 2 system in the future for it so I'll hold off on welding it straight.
