CB360T tank on CM400..UPDATE It fits!

I'm fitting a CB500 tank on my CM400 frame, and had to clearance the tunnel on the tank but didn't have to mess with the mounting ears on the frame. Clearing the tunnel on the tank involved a little persuasion from a hammer... My seat arrangement is a bit different as the seat mounts from under...

    Help! Headlight bucket identification??

it certainly cleans up the front. The bezel I bought on Ebay doesnt quite fit on the bucket, but with a little coaxing I think I can make it work. I also bought a fiberglass bucket from Carpy and mounted an Acewell in it. You can see it if you follow my build link below (R65).

    '79 BMW R45 build

On the ignition switch... I had similar issued trying to find a decent location. I ended up putting it on the right side frame rail, just above the rubber shaft boot. $2 bracket bent 90° and mounted on one of the tabs on the frame. It works ok...I dont have a good picture of it but can put...

    Help! Headlight bucket identification??

Can anyone identify this headlight bucket? There are no identification markings anywhere. It was an Ebay find, sans bezel. The diameter of the bucket (as measured from the inner lip where the bezel would mount) is 150mm (15cm, or 5.9 inches). Many thanks in advance! -Matt

Something new from a noob, BMW R65 cafe

Some much potential! I agree on the rearsets, I'm 6'2" and with the clipons, my stock pegs makes me feel like a contortionist at Cirque Du Soleil! I just got done with my Acewell install, hows yours going? -MG

    1981 BMW R65 Rocker *update 6-6-12*

I can relate to the clumpy ignition and gauge mounts on the R65. I ended up installing an Acewell and in the process relocated the ignition to the right side frame rail, next to where the battery would go. As far as the battery, I have had great luck with a 12 cell...

    My BMW R65 Build

Yea those old snowflake rims are a bit dank. They needs some attention, but what kind of attention? I saw on another thread where someone painted them black and they turned out ok. I was thinking something similar, with pin striping to match the tank. There is something attractive about...

    My BMW R65 Build

In response to an email about what clipons I'm using: I'm running the Tarozzi low rise clipons. I liked them because they mount low, but increase the height of the bar about 1.5". When you go this route, I would highly recommend you take the top clamp of the triple to a machine shop to shave...

    My BMW R65 Build

Thanks! Those particular shocks were on there when I acquired the bike, but I dont think the shocks are that much different over stock. I did increase the preload somewhat because I tote my wife around (she's a buck twenty and I'm a whopping 220lbs), so perhaps when the bike is unloaded it...

    Mono-shock conversion wuestion

I am just now looking into this for a CM400 buildup of my own. I haven't seen any CM400's with a monoshock before so I'm glad it's being discussed here, too. With the right geometry and spring rates, I'm sure it would be find. Gotta run the numbers tho....

    My BMW R65 Build

I haven't done anything with crankcase vent (I saw on another build where it emptied into a small aluminum catch box, might go that route). As far as the carbs, the previous owner had the cone filters on it and the airbox. No idea if the the carbs were re-jetted. Guess I should take a look at...

    My BMW R65 Build

Hello all! I've been lurking here for some time now, and thought it was about time to share my build. I acquired a 1984 BMW R65 from a co-worker who kept it immaculate. It was fairly OEM, with saddlebags et al.... I removed a lot of the fat, bolted on some clip ons, and did some other little...
