1965 Honda Superhawk Restoration

What the hell is a used exhaust system going to be covered in? What a lame excuse. Tell him to find a way to have it blasted and cleaned and get the damn things chromed. Horrible excuse. If he can't tell him to cover your shipping charges. That's not acceptable in my book.
 
Try someone else...I have had TWO STROKE exhaust systems done in the past. Chrome is the expensive alternative, there are plenty of new sets on eBay.
 
Nice paint on the fenders and shocks. Looks great.

Sucks about the chrome guy, sounds like a slouch.

Does anyone have any experience with having a muffler re-chromed?

Or with how a raw polished exhaust would hold up? He made it sound that it would instantly rust? I have absolutely no experience with anything steel and polished, everything I've ever done was all aluminum.
 
Sure. I've never had anyone say that they couldn't do it because the muffler was too dirty. How it holds up depends on how good of a job they do (and if the guy is balking, that's not a good sign) and what kind of shape it's in when you bring it in.

I should add: the two places I used were in Phoenix (when I lived there). Papago Plating was quicker and cheaper but did a shitty job (discoloration, peeling after a few years) but Metro Plating in Mesa did an excellent job. I've used them to rechrome exhausts, but also to straighten and plate a rear fender from a 1964 Valiant.
 
I suppose you will want to stick with US plating companies, but just in case you're interested, I have used Plating Master in London Ontario, they did an exemplary job of rechroming the pipes and mufflers on my old T500 Suzuki. Polished steel will not hold up long at all.
 
Gary at quality chrome has done a super job for me. They are working on parts for rachels 100 now.

Spent about 5 hours total sanding and polishing this hub. I'm not super happy with the way it came out. In my opinion it looks great at certain angles, and some spots it's swirly, with some light light pitting still visible.

I didn't take before pictures but this is how the front wheel looks. It was worse then this one but still the same idea.

The chrome linkage is all yellowed and dull, I might just paint this shiny black, not sure yet.

Polished the fins more, and did a little gloss black contrast that I like.

Also polished as best as I could my original exhausts that came back from the plater who was unable to plate them.

I also made a fork install tool with threaded rod to thread into the fork to help installation.
