1976 BMW R90/6 "Jimmy Neutron Wanna Be"

This is the picture that kind of started this whole rebuild thing. I had been having intermittent issues with this bike. After about 30-50 miles, it would lose a cylinder. After the last ride home, I opened up the seat to find a burnt up bunch of wires. What it turned out to be was this mod podge of a mess of wires going to the battery positive post. Multiple junctions, splices, auto store fuse holders etc. When I took this apart, I thought of the multiple times that I've been 300 miles from home in southern Ohio, with no cell service and nobody knowing where I was lol

I am working through the install of the updated EME charging kit and programable ignition. I opted for the kit that is lithium battery safe as well, should I ever choose to go that route down the road. I am cleaning up the wiring as I go too.

I made a couple of simple brackets up to piece together the cone mufflers and mount them via the original hangers via a pair of stainless band clamps that also hold the muffler to the mid pipe.

I couldn't resist but to roll it outside for a few shots in the sun with the fenders and side covers painted and installed, BUT you guys are gonna have to wait for a true "finished reveal" once I get it sorted and on the road... but I will say, I like how its turning out...

Looking good. Sorting out the wiring is a pain, but always feels good to be confident in what you have. Opting for the new harness for the Guzzi was the best choice I ever made lol.

I have definitely thought about a complete harness replacement, but for now, I'm going to stick with the basic front engine harness replacement that comes with the kit. The rest of it seems to be in pretty solid condition. I'm with ya though, I want to be able to point and go on this thing again without worrying about things breaking

Though I'm bad at updating threads, I did get the bike running, and have put about 100 shakedown miles on it. The first "real" ride (more than around the block) was with our esteemed member, @ridesolo . Pretty cool that the bikes are the same year, make and model, yet have such a different twist on them.

I still have to do a bit of wiring to wrap up the rear turn signals, install a new inner fender that I made and rolled, but otherwise, Im very happy. I am a bit rich on the pilots, but for this early on with still breaking in rings, I am going to leave it. Though I'm keeping it in the bottom half of the throttle range for the 1st 500 or so miles of ring break in, its peppier than it was before, and I'm excited to see how it does when it can be opened up. I feel as though that is where I may see some benefit to the head porting etc.

Either way, here are some back road beauty shots.

Looks great. I'm glad you added the mirror, It was a little disconcerting to not have a rear view.

As for the different twist on the machines; other than both being BMW R90/6, the only thing really in common w/ them is the R90X front brake setup. Kind of amazing that something so much the same can be so different

Thanks Guys!

Im with ya on the mirror. I ended up looking back over my shoulder more times than I could count. That mirror is temp until these come in tomorrow though:

The one thats on it now is better than nothing, but you have to hunch down to see behind you lol
Yeah, I felt bad for ya having to turn around like you were the other day; my old bod won't let me do that easily any more.

Mirrors look good. They are the same brand as mine, if they are as good you'll be happy w/ them.

Thanks @doc_rot ! I put all the stock parts on the shelf. At this point, I've cut nothing on the frame, so if I (unlikely) want to go back to stock, I can. My son may want to someday as well, who knows?

Rode the bike to work today with a couple of Co Workers, both cool dudes in spite of riding Harley baggers lol. Half way there the headlight fell out of the bucket. Luckily the headlight wiring held it on. No real harm done, other than them getting a laugh. Then on the way home, I had a bottom spark plug come loose. To be fair, I've been extra gentle with torqing them, as one had helicoils already. All in all, I'm about 150 miles in on post rebuild break in miles so far. Feeling confident on taking it to the dgr Sunday. I'm trailering it down with @ridesolo and his r90/6 as well. I'm not going to miss the 1 hour of Interstate on a fresh bike either!

It looks great dude! I've been working the kinks out of the Guzzi, going to ride the Chicago DGR finally! Been wanting to do it for years and I never seem to have a bike ready

The bike looks clean as can be man. Where did you get those fenders from?
Much thanks! Pics hide some flaws as always. There is still plenty of evidence of the 100k miles that the bike has gone lol

The fenders were cut down from a single OEM front. I had gotten it from a friend at barber one year. Cut it, shaped it and mounted it to the fork brace on the front and made a mount for the rear. I am happy with how it turned out, though I plan to make the rear wider eventually.
