Bikes, beer, and dad jokes
Hi all! so i have a 1978 cb550 that i bought not running, tore it down put in new rings lapped valves honed cylinders and checked clearances. all good ;D
i have recently got it running and have put about 500 miles on it after the rebuild, have good compression set my valve lash and changed oil all looking stellar. i have a leak down tester coming in the mail next week just to be thorough. The fuel air setup is such: i have the pd carbs and uni air filter boots and jetted it out pretty damn close. Mind you i still need to vacuum sync the carbs, i have a set of vacuum gauges coming next week also. what i have encounter while riding is that i have good response if i roll on the throttle and i can get goin about 90 on the highway but when even in first and second gear, when i pin the throttle it boggs for a few seconds then picks up normal afterwards. too rich i suspected. also with the very black exhaust internals i was pretty sure of this. i ddropped the needles a notch tonight and rode it and it seems better/more powerfull in the roll on throttle but when i pin it i still get a bog, is this normal for the cb550s? any suggestions?

What exhaust are you using? Stock airbox? Stock jetting? What position are the needle clips in now? Pull two plugs and post a pic. I can point you in the right direction but need more info

Is it an F or a K? They have completely different carbs and need completely different adjustments
Just read bit further into post, PD carbs means you have a K.
Good luck getting them working right. :o
Easiest thing to do is get Dynojet tuning kit, probably around $200.00
