Here to learn. Let's do this.
I recently acquired a 1981 cb750c that I intend to turn into my first cafe racer. I tore down the whole bike, I was told that the bike ran before it was parked under a cover years ago, but needed carb work. I got the bike for free so I figured why the hell not. When I got the motor out, and pulled off the exhaust pipe, I looked into the exhaust ports? And could see a TON of soot where the pipe connects to the motor.the bike has about 30000 miles on it, but since it has been sitting I was thinking a rebuild wouldn't hurt. Now, does this seem unnecessary, or would you guys do the rebuild? If not, what are some good methods to make the motor look new? For example, cleaning methods that will not damage any parts of the motor without taking it apart?
I should say that some of these questions are very elementary. I have never done a motor rebuild but have always been very handy when it comes to car repairs and am very handy in general. I am not afraid of any task, or to learn anything new.
