So my 750 disaster didn't deter me from buying another $200.00 motorcycle. I'm not sure if doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of stupidity or insanity, but I'm going to go with it's a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B!

Anyway, this bike had a title in hand, was registered and ridden two years ago and lights and signals seemed to be working. it 'just needs a battery, new chain and some fork seals.' He says....

Well, I was stoked to have a bike that would start up, and it seemed like it would be a good transition from my wreck back onto the streets. Plus two stroke, I get to try and teach myself a completely different engine then last time!

Well, of course, it needs more than that.

Non-rotted seat would be nice

Oh, great. There's an Air leak. Time to take everything apart.

While we're at it, I cleaned the carbs. (I LOVE cleaning carbs when I don't have to synch them. I could do that all day long <3)

We decided that it was an air leak in the center seal so I sent the crank out to have that fix and should get it back next week.

Let the fun begin!

A motor this old was going to need a complete tear-down anyway. Is the frame reasonable and are the wheels usable?
Most of the crud looks fairly superficial.

Crazy

I'm not going to put a lot of faith in the tires, luckily its a tiny little thing and i can buy 30 dollar moped tires for it! So that's going to happen at some point.

actually it looks like a pretty solid bike. after the engine rebuild just slap some paint on her and job done.

i completely love your build!
i currently resto.-modding a yammi rd 250!
your carbs seem similar to mine.next thing im gonna do is cleaning those suckers.

question: did the slides pop right out when you unscrewed the top of the carb?or are there any screws or anything that hold the slide in the carb?

thanks in advance!

what he said^

oh thanks...be sure to put them in the right direction or the little suzi will go full throttle when you start it up :-)

what did you use to clean those carbs?ultrasonic?which fluid did you use?
did you replace the seal from the float chamber?

my carbs are pretty much in the same condition.
did you remove all screws,o rings and jets to clean them or did you leave them in and blew them out, clean them with carb cleaner etc.

sorry for asking so much.im stoked bout your project.

Haha what? I hope I can figure out that much... no promises though. :P

I did this a few weeks ago, but didn't use ultrasonic, just a run of the mill aero carb cleaner. The gaskets looked fine and I didn't replace anything. Took everything out (screws and jets), blew it all out with some air and soaked the bowls clean. Nothing fancy but they weren't in too bad of shape.

I like carbs too........................

Kewl.......................................

I just picked up a GT185 manual. If you need anything out of it let me know!

Rad! I have the owners manual but its pretty vague so I might take you up on that offer, thanks!

this is why it is always best to check the oil when the bike is off, and you are off...the bike. amazing.
