aluminium protectant

irishbones

sucken diesel!
Lads is there anything on this side of the world that gives long lasting protection to polished aluminium other than lacquer? I've tried to locate sharkhide but they won't post outside the state's because it's a flammable liquid.. surely someone must make a similar product??

I know it's kinda cheating Eoin, but one if us stateside could probably get away with posting it to ya. I'd be glad to give it a try for you. Never posted to Ireland, but plenty of UK and Aussie shipments. Never found anything comparable to sharkhide.

I've been trawling the net since I've been talking to you and sharkhide themselves won't even quote me a price. I've been putting off building the wheels in the hope I can get some :( If you could sus things out for me on your side kiley I'd be indebted to you big time... :D

Have you tried ACF50. I have used it on all my bikes and on boat fittings. Its not cheep but if you spray it on a cloth and wipe it on it goes a long way, then keep the cloth in a sealed bag and use it again.

I havent heard of that..Does it last long? Ive seen wipes by harley but i dont think the protection lasts too long..I have it on good authority that sharkhide can last for years before re-application is needed..

I did a bit of surfing and it seems to be like an oil coating?? alot of comments on how it attracts the dirt..but seems very good at preventing corrosion!!

I spray acf50 on my boat motors that sit year round in the salt air. I take the covers off at the end of the season and coat the engine and they look brand new, almost 10 years in the saltwater and salt air.

I don't know how it would hold up to wheels though? It is an oil coating

I was hoping for some miracle coating for the polished aluminium and sharkhide seems the only thing that tics all the boxes. ie clear coat, long lasting, prevents corrosion and fading.Maritime made me aware of it but i cant get my hands on some >:( and i dont want to start assembly until i know for sure i cant get something similar... Ive heard of people using clear lacquer and fine oil but these have their own problems and ive just used autosol and elbow grease every year on my other bike...

Problem solved.

Yep, let me see what I can get a flat rate to your address for (pm it to me), then we can combine the us price of the shark hide plus flat rate shipping, and we can get it ordered and mailed. I do this all of the time with friends in Canada.
