Another New Australian

G'day Fellas- Just thought I would stop by and introduce myself before I start posting.

I am a 33 year old from Perth, Western Australia. My bike and soon to be project is a 1981 CX500C that my Dad purchased back in 1981. The bike was six months old and had been ridden around Perth by an American Sailor that had been seconded to the Royal Australian Navy and was heading back to the States.

My Honda was the first bike that I had ever dreamed of riding and modifying after my Dad took me for a ride around the block in my pyjamas (much to my mother's disgust I was only three years old and that was the last time I wore my pyjamas whilst being on a motorbike!).

One day I caught up with my dad, and asked him how the old beast was going. He said it had been in the shop for a month waiting for a wrench to fix it. One hour later we were at the shop to pick it up and take it home. Carbies seemed fine to me. I then told my Dad that the bike needed a scrub. His response was " Why don't you clean it for me". Being the good son, I rode it home that afternoon. I rand Dad the next day to come and pick it up. The answer I received was..."Why don't you keep it. I was always going to be yours anyway!"

The old Honda has sat in my garage now for a year waiting for a rebuild into the CX500C that I always wanted. Sorry about the long winded post...they wont always be this long!

Welcome to the site :D

Im on the east coast, modifying an old cb350 that needed a lot of work. I came across a guy that actually lives close by, but he's a huge classic honda enthusiast. Very reliable, if you need anything hard to find, he'll probably have it or know where to get it. His name's Mark Dawson, 0418436511

Hope your build goes well.

Thanks very much for your replies and welcomes.

Thanks Mister for the contact that should come in handy should I fall short. Where abouts on the east coast are you?

As soon as I get my sh!t squared away, I will start my build thread. Just need to finish my workbench that I am rebuilding and find some info to help me get started on the project.

Should be a good project. Ive always liked the guzzi looking engines. Im in East Maitland, near Newcastle.
What are you planning for the build? A restoration, customizing it a bit, or full on cafe?

Hi mate. Wish I was living on the east coast. I think Melbourne is where I would opt to live (Carlton would suit me just fine) but I need to wait for the tin lids to move out...

I need to get it over the pits and registered so the plan will be to just get it up and running. After that, I will cafe her. Can't wait.I keep telling my wife that it will be. Nice cheap project. I think she knows better!
